Long time no see Lucy! I see that you are doing well. Brenda says hi :) Lemme fix some *myths* though; 1) passengers and crew hook up all the time = yes they do. Lot lot lot more than you think :) 2)infested with bed bugs = nope. Maybe only happens with really smaller,regional lines but none of the big guys. 3)crew quarters are filthy = primarily depends on the cruise line and the ship. Ive seen really filthy crew areas and really clean crew areas all under same company. 4)cruise ship dump waste = nope. Only food waste gets dumped after 5 miles out of coast which is basically fish food at that stage. 5)passengers can bribe crew members = HELL yeah. Smart passengers will *bribe* few people during embarkation day; -their housekeeper = you will get a lot of free stuff including free laundry -your dining room waiter = you will get whatever you want -your favorite bar guy or coffee guy= you wont pay for anything for the rest of the voyage. In most cases being polite+kind works considering how karen most passengers are. 6)food in the crew mess is leftover from buffet = depends on the ship ajd f&b manager. Some f&b managers bring all the buffet leftovers for midnight workers. Some only give desserts,some f&b throws all leftovers to garbage. 7)what happens in the crew bar stays in the crew bar = yes if you are a guy. Partly yes if you are an average looking woman. Definitely no if you are an attractive woman/man. 8)who the heck started that *if you die,they throw you overboard* nonsense? Probably same people who started *stuff is cheaper on the last day*. 9) nobody put nobody in ice cream machine. Its most likely a nonsense myth that some crewmember started back in the day. 10)*you are a slave* = yes and no. Depends on where you are from. People from third world countries gets paid more and anyway they work more on land since third world countries have no labor laws. People from developed countries generally work to see the world. And a lot of *wage* theft happens with all that extra work unaccounted for in kronos. Its part slavery and no,just because you *accept* it,doesnt make it non slavery. Also only few departments have the priviledge to go out. Thats why you dont see a british or canadian cleaner. 11)nobodys gonna die during an emergency.

Hi, one question please, I understand that most shipping companies require an interview with the agency of my country and another directly with the shipping company. Why in the case of Virgin Voyages was it first with the agency in my country, and then with another agency which is Apollo Group?

They have mourges today, but not all had it before. And if someone died, well you put them in the freezer can't have them laying around. But yes probably not common today since they have mourge

I got bedbugs in a pax cabin. Told the reception and they'd change the sheets, don't know if they sprayed in the cabin also but no problems after that.

One thing I learned in resort world is that some people have to take it day in and day out at their job and part of being on vacation, for them, is getting their turn to dish it back (It's 'I'm the Captain now' day). I kind of learned to just let them go for a bit, then look at them until they realize; and ask, "Feel better now?" Of course, their mileage varies in relation to my level of caffeination.

A really good analysis while dispelling some silly rumors. And you're right about safety. I think cruises are VERY safe ... for being a traveling city on the ocean hundreds of miles away from any real "help." So there are no guarantees like life in general. I feel much safer on a cruise ship than I do driving 65 mph on a freeway.
