Verses or pieces of Scripture we want to memorize. 2:52 Putting Quotes of Saints, Quotes of Scripture. 3:08 + Having Words We Can Rely On. 3:28 What to do when Demons and The Lower Will get the best of us? 4:17 Our Will inside us, The Demons on The Outside of us giving us trouble. 4:45 Do What A Warrior does when he is hard pressed by the enemy + Take a Step Back + Collect Your Thoughts Within + Find a way to deal with This Enemy. 5:48 Quoting Psalm 42. Arise for our help and Redeem us for our mercies sake. 6:29 Surrounded by temptations, pull back and try to find a better position, and continue the fight. 7:08 Draw back. 7:33 Physically remove yourself from 1 place to go to another place. 7:59 + "Collect Your Thoughts Within" 8:33 - External Stimuli make it so you can't hear your own good thoughts. 9:06 Re-establish the consciousness and feeling. - Disney Culture "I can do this, I have the strength, I have a dream." 9:45 NO. + Withdraw, + I cannot do this + I am powerless over this tempation + I can only achieve anything by admitting that first + By God, with warmth of trust, and tears. 10:56 Look to The Savior. 0:30 Welcome to The Inner Way with Fr David Smith. 0:52 Chapter 18 of The Inner Way. + Dealing with 1 passion we struggle with. 1:25 Even when you try and focus to stop your passion, a demonic attack takes you by surprise. 2:03 Chapter 18 advises about sudden impulses and the excitement of passions. 2:35 Make it a rule to review in your mind all the occasions you may meet in the day the passionate and prepare beforehand how to stifle them at the very inception without allowing them to develop. 3:31 My relationship with food - I eat when I'm stressed - I eat when I'm overworked - I often eat to congratulate myself when something has gone well. 4:14 Weight Loss and Dieting. Within a couple years gaining it back. 4:52 "What can I do for the rest of my life to overcome this passion?" 5:17 What do you do when you find yourself giving into temptation? 5:55 A Fr David Seminar for Nursing Home Administrators 6:32 - A few days where Fr David was unsuccessful 7:04 BIG Plates, lots of food, big spoons, Fr David was SO Hungry, and he got SO MUCH FOOD. 7:52 "How did I do that?!" "I've completely messed it up again." *Prepare for The Day when You Wake Up* 8:18 8:44 Sit, eat, no snacks. Do this and this and this. + Where am I going to be tempted? Prepare for it before you get there. 9:32 Plan Ahead! 9:45 Give up the gobbling of food. "It isn't like I suffered." "I felt better in my soul as well as my body." 10:22 A Person, A Situation, A Habit, you know that it's coming. 10:51 Next week we will continue to look at chapter 18.

0:32 Welcome to The Inner Way. We've been looking at Unseen Warfare, Chapters 15, 16. 1:10 Overcoming Eating Problems. 1:48 Unseen Warfare and St Hesychius say the same thing in different ways. 2:44 Know The Order in which you should fight your passions. 3:11 Struggling with your bad desires and passions. + What thoughts, dispositions, passions predominately rule? + Take up arms and struggle to overcome it. 4:00 Many times I decide "I'm gonna be a better person." 4:29 I would try haphazardly to do all these things at once. + Exercise + Study + Read + Stop watching tv I'm gonna do all these good things 5:32 "How long, 2-3 days?" "But at some point, things fall away." 5:58 "My life just goes back into being what it was before." 6:20 "I need to get my eating under control." 6:38 Choose the passion that's the worst and focus on that one thing. 7:04 Holy Eating, Neptic Eating, Reasonable, Watchful, Eating. 7:27 I didn't simply let the other sins I have go by the wayside. 7:54 They were not my focus. 8:23 I love this piece of advice. It's different, but not, person-to-person. Focus attention on 1 passion we really struggle with. 9:08 We grow closer to God by working on that 1 passion. 9:55 Chapter 18 next week. What happens when I get caught off guard and fall again?

You are very well spoken. I like that this is said in the spirit of fellowship. Some counter arguements MIGHT be "who will declare his generation" or alternately "who will deliniate his tribe". Or perhaps....an extropolative approach to " to see the mind of God, look to his creation". Then we imagine the Church as the body of Christ on earth, while considering human bodies, which He created. Within human bodies, in the digestion are elements continually at odds with one another, and if any prevailed the end of the whole body would occur.

That was wonderful, Father David; thank you so much! I was very touched when you said that you say, "Forgive me", near the end of each confession... acknowledging your own human propensity for sin & the "position" that the newly absolved penitent holds, having just been absolved/cleansed of their own sins! What a beautiful awareness to drive home! After many (~35) years of avoiding Confession & simply "going through the motions", because I was terrified that if I stopped going to Mass I would stop even TRYING to be reconciled with Him, I was finally blessed about 5 years ago with a series of occurrences that brought me back to Confession, & ramped up my pursuit & then continuous pursuit of Him, through the increasingly fervent practice my Catholic Faith. I almost always come out of Confession feeling lighter & joyful, & with the resolve to do better, in keeping with the realization of that moment of having been totally forgiven; what an absolutely tremendous gift! I am so SO VERY blessed, & incredibly grateful! God bless you, Father!😇 ["How to Make a Good Confession" - Fr. David Smith] [4.26.2024]

Lectio Divina: “Divine Reading” Lectio Divina, or “Divine Reading,” involves meditative listening to the reading, out loud and slowly, of a short passage or a few isolated verses of Scripture. It can be down on your own or with a group. Those who listen are encouraged to set aside analysis, and what they “know” already about the passage, seeking instead to open themselves to God’s word, listen with their hearts, and receive it expectantly and passively. They then attend to what they receive from God. God’s word is received personally, as an individualized gift to each person. Lectio Divina, on your own Choose a short Scripture passage for your meditation, and it is to be read out loud slowly. Quiet yourself and ask the Holy Spirit to guard and guide your meditation. First reading. One-minute silent reflection before God. Take notice of whatever captures your attention in the passage or in your inner experience. Second reading. One-minute silent reflection. Listen for a single word or phrase that particularly strikes you. Third reading. Three to five minutes of silent reflection. Listen to how the passage seems to touch your life experience. Fourth reading. Three to five minutes of silent reflection. What do you feel the passage might be inviting you to do? What is God inviting you to be? How is God inviting you to change? Spend some time in prayer over what you received from God’s word, and give thanks for his gift to you.

For those who claim the USA is not a Christian Nation. Note the immortal words of President Reagan. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia In the United States, 1983 was designated as the national Year of the Bible by President Ronald Reagan by Proclamation 5018, made on February 3, 1983 at the annual National Prayer Breakfast. President Reagan was authorized and requested to so designate 1983 by Public Law 97-280 (Senate Joint Resolution 165], 96 Stat. 1211) passed by Congress and approved on October 4, 1982. The law recited that the Bible "has made a unique contribution in shaping the United States as a distinctive and blessed nation and people" and that, quoting President Andrew Jackson, the Bible is "the rock on which our Republic rests". It also acknowledged a "national need to study and apply the teachings of the Holy Scriptures." "Can we resolve to reach, learn and try to heed the greatest message ever written, God's Word, and the Holy Bible?" Reagan stated. "Inside its (The Bible) pages lie all the answers to all the problems that man has ever known." 10:15

What is the full meaning of Bible? The English word Bible is derived from Koinē Greek: τὰ βιβλία, romanized: ta biblia, meaning "the books" (singular βιβλίον, biblion). The word βιβλίον itself had the literal meaning of "scroll" and came to be used as the ordinary word for "book".

Why? 7:34 Repentance is the gateway to The Spiritual Life + Confession, walking into contact with God + Receive Mercy 8:38 C - “This is how yesterday went. 🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:38 📜 The video discusses the Dosatist heresy, which has had a lasting impact on Christianity and continues to influence some believers within the church. 01:18 🤔 The Dosatist heresy was unique in that it was propagated by Christian believers who misinterpreted certain aspects of Christianity rather than those outside the church. 03:36 🤝 The heresy was different from other early heresies like Judaizers and Gnostics, which were brought by people not considered part of the Christian Church. Dosatist heresy, on the other hand, was brought by believers who misunderstood Christian teachings. 05:12 🌍 The Arian controversy was a significant early Christian heresy, and it led to the First Ecumenical Council, establishing the relationship between church and state, known as "church-state symphony." 13:24 🔍 Lucian of Antioch's teachings indirectly highlighted the need for an authority to interpret scripture correctly, as the words of scripture alone were not always precise enough to prevent heretical interpretations. 27:03 📖 Arius, known for his asceticism and hatred of those who denied Christ during persecutions, taught that the Son of God was a creation of the Father, forming the core of Arianism. 🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:38 🕊️ The video introduces a four-part series on the seven ecumenical councils, which significantly shaped Christianity from the 4th to the 9th centuries. 01:47 🏛️ The Orthodox Church is often referred to as the "Church of the ecumenical councils" because it aims to preserve ancient traditions and teachings established during these centuries. 03:04 🪓 The importance of understanding and preserving traditions and practices in Christianity is emphasized, rather than discarding them in favor of modernization. 12:06 📜 The video mentions an early Christian council described in the Book of Acts, which helped set a precedent for resolving important questions in the early Church. 16:55 🌟 The early Christian councils sought to discover the will of God when addressing theological questions and conflicts. 20:36 🤝 The video underscores that early Christian councils aimed to find the will of God rather than compromise, with a leader making the final decision. 21:48 ⚖️ The emergence of Christian heresies, particularly related to the nature of Jesus as both man and God, is discussed. 25:52 📖 The heresy of Docetism, which denied the full humanity of Christ, is explained, and Saint John's refutation of this heresy is cited.

In Russian orthodox tradition including some OCA. Frequent confession is seen best practice so to say. I go to Antiochian now and was told not to come as often. What should I do?

If you're going to a church that does not require frequent confession, don't go frequently. Conform to the practices of the church you're attending.
