I cannot resist this comment (without a question): intersubjectivity might not be the ultimate horizon, but it is - or appears to be - the ultimate horizon of the debate, wether it is affirmed, negated or repeated. (Inter)subjectivity is undeniably the problem of modernity (i.e. capitalism), thus proving that the 'social process of production' is not just one more 'positivity' that would explain all which is transcendental, like 'objectivity' in Feuerbach or 'will' in Schopenhauer, and so on, but the 'real' that determines a series of displacements of its own, that is, the 'real' that determines 'ideological production' and thus the 'ideological unconscious' of a given historical conjuncture, and so on. Just as in other historical conjunctures, the Master/slave relationship, or the feudal Lord/serf relationship, capitalism's subject/subject relationship also determines every single word and every single lived experience at the ideological level - not that I am denying the 'pulsional/libidinal' unconscious, I'm only saying that the latter can only be expressed (outside madness) through the 'ideological' one. The 'social' in this sense is the (practical) 'material objectivity' which only Marx saw and Feuerbach was blind to see.

I think this kind of thing happens a bit too much in Zizek's lectures to be a coincidence, so that each time we can conveniently put this in the shoes of the other person who is being put down as being a big meany to that easy going funny man Zizek... I mean really. He is constantly calling her a bitch in front of a full college classroom. Let's at least not pretend that we saw her pick a fight with him because it was obviously going on before the lecture started.

I just thought of a very nice term for this attitude of Slavoj with which he frames his lectures. I would like to corner for this the term "irony curtain". It's when a front of irony is used, much in the way Lacan describes the joke to work as an operator between two discourses, to conveniently shift the appearance from being behind an iron curtain to an ivory tower and back, whichever is strategically most convenient for avoiding the opposition.

I think Zizek should stop doing this, it is simply not helping whatever cause there is to be helped. He should just man up and not hide behind these make believe self referential paradox irony charades and just have a fucking dialogue for once. Not in the least because its so counter to his ethos of frankness in discourse. It's just as simple as that, all the rest is pretentious metaphysical hysteria. This is coming from someone who considers Zizek one of the foremost philosophers of the moment.

zizek is wrong about hegel's inability to think 'non-productive repetition'... at the level of what hegel calls 'life' there is only non-productive repetition, in itself life doesnt reach beyond itself as subject, it is not yet for itself.. -- you can find it in the phenomenology, the section that precedes desire and recognition, and specifically in his philosophy of nature, part 2 of the encyclopedia, where he deals with plant nature.
