I loved "Freaks" from the first time I watched it as a young pre-teen It run late at night in TV and I _(more or less 'accidentally')_ stumbled over it, while zapping through the _(then five or six)_ channels. Was captivated from the first second, and had to watch it to the end. Years later, I bought the DVD. Showed it to a few people over the years, who didn't know it before...well, it sure is not for everyone.

Here's an interesting fact, Peter Cushing did his own stunt in the finale scene where he was running across the table to open the blinds. No Stunt double on that one, that is Peter Cushing himself.

Barbara Steele was superb in Black Sunday. She still looks like a star too! With Hammer Films, Mr. Gatiss hit upon my 2 favorite Hammer stars in Cusing and Lee. Christopher Lee is hero of mine, his service to the Crown and the world in the Second World War gave me a commonality because I served my country in combat as well, though my work cannot compare to Mr. Lee's in any way at all. Christopher Lee will live forever in my memory as a grand hero and a fine man. Requiescat in pace, Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. Blessings to you all, and many thanks to Mr. Mark Gatiss for creating this brilliant documentary.

Boris Karloff, or William Henry Pratt, was a brilliant actor and an extremely kind man. When the script called for him to throw the little girl into the pond, Karloff did not want to do it, he thought it cruel. Boris did a fantastic job in the film Frankenstein. He had a great sense of humor too. The story about him that I love the most concerns Bela Lugosi's funeral. Bela was buried in his Dracula costume, and Karloff bent over and said, "Bela, Bela, of you're putting me on ,,," Now, tell me that's not funny. Mark Gatiss is an extraordinary writer and filmmaker. This is THE definitive documentary regarding HORROR FILMS. Perhaps, some day, in the future, another person will attempt to out this one, but I doubt they will succeed. Since Mr. Gatiss was able to interview Ms. Stuart and Ms. Lammerle with their memories of filmmaking in the 1930s represents his crowing achievement. It's great stuff and I cannot see it being succeeded. Well done, Mr. Gatiss, very well done indeed. 👍🏻 Cat People, by Val Lewton is a favorite of mine too. He's not overrated, he had a very low budget to work with and made the best films he could within them.

He's probably right Rosemary's Baby, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Night of the Living Dead, The Exorcist took horror to new levels. Where do you go from there?

Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell was really dated when it came out in 1973. The wig looked awful, the monster looks funny and it's just the same tired formula. Corrupt villains, a keen young student apprentice, a pretty young woman and the mad scientist. To the Devil a Daughter is much better, contemporary, shocking, great cast. Christopher Lee is magnificent.

I agree Plague of the Zombies is a fun one, the cast felt fresh, I liked the quaint 19th century Cornish village setting and production values were great. Sympathetic young characters and a great finale. I wasn't a fan of Dr Terror's House of Horrors. Cushing is wasted I thought, Christipher Lee isn't well used either, the plant one was interesting but not really the others.

The Curse of Frankenstein is one of my top 20 horror movies. The budget is probably small as most of it is set just inside the masion, there's also not many characters. Peter Cushing though is just excellent, the cinematography is gorgeous and there's a real ghoulish macarbe feel to it.

I thought that was actually Laemmle at the beginning until he mentioned Mark Gatiss! Love the 30's horror films. Today's efforts sacrifice story and good acting for gore and spectacle. I can't watch them, and I was brought up helping in the family butcher's shop 😂
