I'm a scrub tech student, and let me tell you, the "no arguing" rule is definitely real! On my first day at my clinical site, one of the scrub techs expected me to know the procedures and setups for the scheduled surgeries, which was a hot mess. By my second day, I was thrown into ortho, and let's just say I fell in love 😭💖. It's only my third week, and I've already scrubbed in for 10 ortho cases. It's incredible to see the differences in surgeon preferences and techniques. However, things haven't been smooth. By my third day, the same scrub tech left me alone with the surgeon and the RN, making both me and the RN uncomfortable. Recently, she tried to start something with me just minutes before a patient was wheeled into the OR. I had to tell her, "This is not the place or the time." She even tried to get me kicked out of the clinical site and gossips about me to the other techs. On Friday, to keep the peace, I left and made sure to apologize to the OR director and charge nurse. Despite her complaints that I'm just standing around watching, I've been actively helping everyone, including the surgeon. I return to the clinical site in a week and hope things are better!😅 😭

The cons you’ve mentioned aren’t just for L&D I work in an eye surgery center and we do the same things as far as administrative, stocking and turn over etc

On the waiting list for my local program. Have a family and was wondering how manageable the school would be, so this helps a lot. I would imagine the reason some hospitals are hard on students is the same reason instructors in boot camp are hard on the recruits. People's lives involved and you'd need to be able to handle the stress.
