Hi, sorry I haven’t been on KZfaq for a little while. Both of those boots are good. If I had to choose out of those two, I would pick the swath. My favorite boot now is the photon soft though. It’s stiffer than both of these and just an all around great boot.

I’ve read a lot of reviews saying the regular photons get soft after they break in. I want a boot that I can wear both in and out of the park that will last me several seasons. Do you think the flex in these will hold up, or would it be safer to go with the regular photons?

Hey Jimmy, I'm an all mountain freestyle rider and I spend a lot of time in the park. I'm thinking of making the switch to step ons. I'm gonna go with the lobacks when they're available again and the Swath boots. I love a more free and playful setup so this seems like the best choice. I've read a ton of reviews on the Swath Step On boots and most people go up half a size. I'd prefer to go true to size but I do have an E width foot and I'm worried the boots will be too tight and cause pain. Unfortunately I don't live near any shops and have to order online. What's your experience with the Swath boot as far as sizing and how it packs out?
@themidwestshredder
@themidwestshredder 5 ай бұрын
I usually run the Swath true to size but I don’t have a wide foot. My buddy Ron has a wide foot and his step on boots were too tight. He went up half a size and he said they were perfect.

Hey great video, I think the only one on KZfaq on this particular board. The story behind it is exactly like you’ve said. The only thing I don’t know is how many of the mystery airs were produced and how long did they sell the black one as both of the shown boards are the same years model. I own one black mystery (bought around Y2k on polish ebay for about 20 bucks) and two ketchup mustard. The black one is pretty same condition as yours, the other two dedenitely worse. The other cool fact is that mine mystery air was made in austria, and the ones made in Europe did not have a blue triangle in the middle.

Two recommendations I would make is: 1) to use stomp pads by both bindings (even if you're riding directional, see #2) , 2) to use stomp pads with spikes (crab grab shark teeth for example) to help avoid snow getting into my binding bed to begin with. I almost never have issues clipping as I've gotten into the habit of using those spiky stomp pads to clean the bottom of my boots before trying to step in. I can do the whole lift my high-back, wipe binding bed, step-in, go in under a few seconds so it's easy to keep up with all my skier friends. I have been experimenting with the PowerRide inserts this season for stiffer/more support around the ankle on the step-on boots. They seem to stiffen up the boot quite well and makes my board even more responsive, and its seemed to help with my ankle pain as well. Might be worth looking into, especially for those who love to carve.

I am for the step on but here is my experience. I tried them on a 8/10 stiff and wide board. Jones 163w. The step ons are too soft. I put regular strap bindings (stiff side) on the jones board and it unlocked it. Step ons on a medium to soft board were fantastic. 28 years of riding experience so it might just be my preference. I love the ease and response but moving around a stiff, wide and long stick…. Not the best. I bet some stiffer boots would be best.
