Comparing carr with winston and dalton is just plain stupid at this point, if those were drafted by the raiders they wouldnt have lasted more than 3 years in the league. The bucs were a sb roster and that defense wouldve been number 1 in the league if not for winston giving away 35+ turnovers, brady went there and won easy. Dalton also had great teams that were xonstantly in the playoffs and he was the weak link nd got exponed every single time

Wasn't comparing them at all, just pointing out on the average, after of 9 years in the league Derek Carr was walking into a similar situation with the Saints that he had a few times in Oakland. And he actually outperformed his avg slightly while dealing with many of the same problems he dealt with the Raiders. Numbers don't lie AND they don't tell the whole story either.

Carr best version is a mvp candidate andes shown múltiple times, in 2016 he was the mvp favorite before breaking his leg, in 2020 he was in the conversatiom before their defense imploded and he still broke the recird of wins when a defense allows 30ppg (even outplaying mahomes at arrowhead), and in 2021 he was the early mvp favorite beating mahomes and Allen for offensive player of the month before losing gruden, ruggs and another 7 starters on offense. What those seasons had in common is that he had a good o line, a speedster and a good contested catcher along with defenses not being historically bad, he doesnt have that in nola

And we definitely need that consistent best version of him. If Kubiak, Janocko and the rest live up to their reputations as coaches and DC does his part, the West Coast version we saw with gruden is a real possibility.

@@blackngoldnetwork that 2020 offense with this defense would make us a top 5 team probably going to the nfc championship, 27ppg with dominant time of possesion and a great defense is a good recipe to win, but I dont think kubiak will do that tbh

I'll address your 2 concerns or problems with Carr. The first one being inconsistency. Where does consistency start on a team, especially for a quarterback? Coaching, pass protection, and a balanced offense. Even in Oakland/LV, Carr rarely had any of the above. Yet, he still put up franchise record setting numbers and is on the all-time NFL qb lists in multiple categories. Look no further than Stafford and Baker. Stafford was called a stat-padder, and he only had those stats because he was throwing to Megatron. Then, he goes to a team with better coaching, a top 10 offensive line, and a better rushing attack, and he wins a Super Bowl. Baker Mayfield was on his 4th team in 4 years, but they had a top 10 offensive line, a good coach, and a legit running game. Suddenly, he's everyone's favorite. Conversely, look at when Mahomes' line was struggling November 20th to December 25th. They lost 4 out of 6 games, and he looked terrible. Against the Raiders, he had a fumble 6 and a pick 6 within 5 seconds of each other. So, even he struggled to be consistent despite a top 5 defense and a future Hall of Fame coach. The 2nd thing you mentioned was leadership. This one really blows me away. Was he not supposed to yell at a receiver for jogging multiple times? Was he not supposed to say something to his line that blew their protection and were directly responsible for him getting injured more than he has his entire career? On that particular play, he called out the mike linebacker correctly, and Ruiz whiffed on the block. Sure, he messed up protection calls on occasion, but what quarterback doesn't? Saying he has to win a Super Bowl or be a top 10 quarterback to "earn that right" is utterly ridiculous. When Will Levis yelled at DeAndre Hopkins last year, he was immediately praised for his leadership.

All the hype has been on Rattler but Jake Haener is the future. The Saints gave up two 4th round picks and a 7th round pick to draft Jake but didn't give up shit for Rattler. In fact, they had 4 5th round picks so if they were so high on Rattler why didn't they trade up when he dropped all the way to the 5th. They could have traded up to the 3rd or the 4th or to the top of the 5th but they didn't. Jake is smarter (goes through his progressions much faster than Rattler) and is much more accurate!

Can't really disagree with any of those points! Sometimes in the NFL, teams just fall in love with guys that can make "Holy sh*t" throw and try to push him over a guy who is all around better. Hope we don't become one of those teams.

I believe he’s the future of our TE room. Maybe I am reaching, but I see a poor mans Shockey here. He’s not a WR so I don’t need him to run 4.3. Can he make the tough catches over the middle? Does he run with a lot of attitude behind those pads when he does decide to run after catch? He’ll be just fine.

This is something I wrote on Saintsreport. (Comments) We lost to all of the good teams that we played. Jax, Det, GB, Tx. were all close games. Which showed we were a good team. But we got smoked vs the Shannan tree in Minn and the Rams. This told us, we need a new OC period, if we want to be a GREAT team. We showed heart at the end beating TB and ATL. TB was our most impressive win becaue they advanced in the playoffs. But they were technically 8-8 at the time. Which makes the above cherry picked statement, that we didn’t beat a winning team, true. Regardless of the past, this team brilliantly realized what it needed to do, and did exactly that. They hired the Godfathers Son and his henchmen of the system that has been repetitively rocking us for years. One thing you have to give them credit for, when they realize that they have a need, they go out and fill that need ASAP with quality. I truly have hope in the Saints this year. My only concern is how fast can our offense absorb this new system into their DNA.

@@blackngoldnetwork last year: We start off 2-0 and head to GB. Carr gets hurt, and we lose the road game. The funk lingered into the following week when TB smoked us. Their manhood was questioned, and the responded big time vs Ne on the road. Feeling over confident now, gets humbled by the Texans. Now at this point. If I’m a player on the team, I don’t know who we are? Are we good? Do we suck? Are we phony? What’s up!? Manhood tested again vs Jax team which was favored and QB1 started. We lose this one at home, but it kinda felt like just being close was a win. We follow up with 2 wins which established that we didn’t suck. Followed by the Rams, where we were trounced. This is the game that told everyone in the Saint FO. That we need a drastic change. We go on to finish the season beating two average teams, and deservedly missed the playoffs. This is who we are. An average team that cannot compete at all vs the elite teams. So the Saints FO recognized this and made the proper changes. At least as fans we know that the front office has its finger on the pulse of the team and will make the necessary changes. Thats all we can ask for.
