My logic is: no data, no internet, no connection unless those apps get us thru automatically. I know eSIM can go outside China (social media as well) but not 100% sure about banking & how fast the data is chewed up (it's on roaming). Anybody? Otherwise, I might just buy a local physical SIM at the China airport SIM counter, get them to install then go online to pay for the SIM right there. If OK then all good. Remember no money no go. But opt for money or social media? Your call. (local SIM might need a VPN to go outside China for social media). Hello from Australia.
