Beethoven wrote amazing symphonies, but his Emperor Concerto is in my opinion his runaway best work. So Beethoven on Beethoven. Turn it up loud!.

In the mid eighties I saw Arrau in Barcelona, in the Palau de la Música playing this concerto. I will remember it ❤all my life.

I heard Wild perform this at Carnegie Hall on his 80th birthday concert. Magnificent.

@@WBensburg I heard him play it in a small hall at Mount Saint Mary's University in LA in the late 80s. He gets the evil in this piece, and in the Mephisto Waltz even more. He played three recitals on a Mon/Wed/Fri of all Liszt. At the very end, he played an encore: the simplest possible waltz by Chopin. A few of us "got it" and guffawed. Qué maravilla! Esta grabación es un material de estudio interesantísimo, a pesar de la limitada calidad del audio se puede escuchar a una gran pianista, el toque polifónico y el muy expresivo dominio melódico...verdaderamente notable. Sí, un estilo pianístico aún muy dominado por la estética romántica pero espectacular (el preludio y fuga a 5 es sublime!). Quién tendrá estas grabaciones? Se han publicado, re masterizado? Un tesoro! Muchas gracias por compartir❤

Every 3 minutes, there's 1 second of silence interrupting the audio (starting at 0:58). There's no music missing, just the extra silence. For my personal use, I made a copy with these 7 gaps removed. If that's something of interest, I can send it to you.

Dentro de una entrevista, Claudio menciona que su en su etapa de niñez escuchaba a su madre interpretar Rondo Caprichoso, desarrollándose con cada nota y puliendo cada detalle para llegar a ser el mejor interprete de piano chileno y del mundo, gracias por tanto Claudio Arrau

Arrau would stand out, even in today's overcrowded field of 'perfect' (read perfectly boring) musicians. Here , in his prime, we have that lovely limpid legato, allied with technical brilliance.... a magical touch on the ivories, both strong and gentle.
