This is just beautiful to watch. So often good explanations are juxtaposed to bad rendered examples. Here, excellent explanations with a BEAUTIFUL rendering. This is so inspiring. Thank you. Never stop. Could have been much longer!

I’m curious what brand of brush you’re using? I assume it’s sable, really nice sharp point. Nice painting!

When you are charging colors how do you decide what colors to work with? Is there a formula you use or just personal preference. Also, when charging the colors is it random when you change the color? It doesn’t appear to be as simple as warm colors in the light and cooler colors in the shadow?

I know I’m late to the party, but this is fantastic! It showed the time involved to help me plan for urban sketches, you shared what you thought was a mistake (relatable), and it was great to hear that you continued to think about it and came back the next day to modify the drawing to your satisfaction. I enjoyed the longer format and the insights you provided. I’m trying the Sargent scratches for sure. Thanks for taking the time to share with us!

I enjoyed this very much! I'd never seen anyone do the ticking with the xacto. And it was really helpful to see how to picked and accented the planes of the face and outfit. Great tip on going back at the end to touch up the darks. I'm always afraid I'm overworking it, but I can see where this would be super helpful without actually overworking it...if careful.

Much prefer the long format as it is easier to understand how a sketch is painted from start to end, what goes first or later. And the thought process in between. Thanks very much!

I do like both formats, but being able to watch the entire process with this longer video is very educational. It can really provide specifics on this type of watercolor painting. It was so interesting to hear about Sargent, as I just finished a virtual tour of his paintings. Unfortunately, they focused more on his portraits than his watercolors. She said that would be a different tour. I did learn a lot, though, and it certainly helped me understand your reference to scraping. Thank you so much, Marc! Brilliant, as always. 😊😊
