Hi Chris Black faced zebra finch is a dominant gene So you see it or it’s not there no split black faced 👍

Why do you breed them in the fall? Days are shorter and shortening making artificial lighting necessary.

Guessing but he probably lives in a climate with a cold winter like I do. It can be a lot more fun to breed in the fall because summer is short and it's nice to put birds in outdoor aviaries in the summer for their off season, and then bring them in to breeding cages in the fall for breeding so you have something to look forward to year round. (Babies in the winter, and getting to enjoy your birds outside in the summer, and giving them a more enjoyable off season) but yes artificial lighting is required. He may have a different reason that he does it.

thanks for the video. It is cruel to separate them. They mate for lifetime! Imagine one would do that to you. Zebra finches are nest sleepers. So it is also cruel not to provide them with a nest even if you do not want them breeding. Imagine you have to sleep on a kitchen stool....

I have just started breeding Gouldian finch's.. I have a pair of red headed, purple breast green backs.. so far as of today she has laid 5 eggs .. looking forward in watching your videos to help me with this .. great video.. thanks for your help

Glad i found your channel. Curious if you think 1/2 inch mesh is small enough for star finches to not escape? We're building a very big outdoor aviary with stainless mesh for my pet cockatiels and java sparrows. Thinking of adding maybe a couple more finch species. My cockatiels are super chill 😊

My zebras put anything they can fit into the nest box including pine needles. I would recommend softer materials such as coco fiber, shredded paper, feathers, or dried grasses.

My Canary, if He's molting, He seems weak, barley able too get on His perch, it is August. I am Concerned He is Alone. I do have a Happy Light, it's getting darker. I'm Not seeing much for feathers. He is not flying like He was. He is singing a bit. If this is a molting, it's the worse one, He seems So Weak. He is eating, and drinkimg I think He may have had a bath tonight, He used too have one, every day. I bought Special food. I moved all his perches down, water down, food down.too help him Please Help with Advice

Sounds like your bird is sick. They should be able to still fly if they are molting. Give him a place in the cage to receive heat. He may need some vet advice for a specific medications.

They can withstand temps above 100 degrees Fahrenheit as long as they have a cool place to retreat to from the sun and heat.

Put a light to them. If they’re fertile you’ll see veins developing. If it’s not fertile the eggs will be see through

That is a little on the cold side for breeding, but they may be acclimated.
