hello, from Texas. I love your shorts in u tube, there is only one thing that doesn't help me as an early student of Vietnamese, and is the extra sounds, and the speed of the voices. I am listening to new words for the first time, so it is difficult for me already, and adding those distractions does not help. but maybe I am the only one with this problem. anyway I just wanted to let you know. thanks so much.

I'm a southern-born viet who moved to the US when i was about 4 in 1994, and i have to say that some of these are questionable lol. you have to take into consideration that hue and northern vietnamese dialect are even harder for us to understand 😂

I just became interested in Vietnamese two weeks ago. I've been studying it EVERYDAY for 30-45 min with Duolingo (just to get a foundation...I know that Duolingo isn't going to help me master it, but its a start). Its such a beautiful sounding language. Im enjoying hearing you speak it.👌

Very. detail-y question if I may: In English there is a slight grammar distinction between "What are you doing this weekend" and "Are you doing anything this weekend" with the first being an open question and the second being technically a yes/no question. At 2:32, it seems the VNese is technically a yes/no question but the English translation is open. I'm wondering if there is any cultural reason to choose yes/no over open, e.g., it is too nosy or abrupt to ask "What are you doing this weekend?"/ "Cuối tuần này em làm gì?"

Hi there, thank you for your comment. We realize that the translation "what do you do this weekend" or "what are you doing this weekend" does not fully convey the meaning and attitude of the question "cuối tuần này em có làm gì không?". This question is indeed a yes-no question and would be better translated as "are you doing anything this weekend?" or "do you have any plans for the weekend?". In this case, Vietnamese people would ask yes-no questions because it shows respect for the other person's privacy, especially in new relationships that aren't close yet.

At 8:45, I couldn't catch what is meant by "có dâu" (as written in the transcript). The best I can guess is "have strawberries" as a slang for "have pimples".
