Such a great video! (Good job going through the testing of your new equipment and just posting anyway) I made many candles aboutfive or six years ago and cannot find my notes. In the last 3-4 years i have switched to bath and body products so i decided to refresh my memory so i can make candles for gifting. Your video has helped me to remember some key parts. I do have a question though about “types of wax”; you mentioned a sort of combination with coconut and palm. Can you make a video elaborating this? Is it just another type of specific wax or is it oils? Thank you again and God bless!

Thank you whats best, essential oil or fragrance oils?
@phenixology10 ай бұрын
Hi. I use fragrance oils, which has essential oils mixed in as needed. Using essential oils only to make Candles can become very expensive and frustrating. It does not always give off the correct strength of fragrance. It also can change the fragrance when burning. It can also be toxic to some animals when burning pure essential oils. Candle Science has fragrance oils that are the perfect blend of fragrance oil and essential oils. A lot of their fragrances are known as "clean scents".

Thank You so much for this video. They are beautiful even without the heat gun. I like more of the white to show. Can you tell me what type of wax you used and are you adding it at the recommended pour temp or is the wax added a little hotter or cooler. Also, did the dye roll on its own around the side of the jar or did you swirl or rotate it? I have tried so many ways to do these candles and they were very very challenging so I took a break from them. Thanks again. Beautiful candles.

Thank you for watching🤗. I do my own blend of waxes. It is a soy blend of 464, some coconut wax, and palm wax. I purchase them from Candle Science , Sixteen Seventeen, Hearts & Craft. I heat up to about 190 degrees, and I add the fragrance oil at that temperature. Working with Dye is not my favorite thing. Lol. I prefer my candles all white. When I add the drops of Dye to the jar, I rotate the jar to help the Dye travel. An easier way is to paint the Dye on the jar in thin layers. Also, you can dip a stick in the Dye and put the Dye in the melted wax. It's definitely frustrating, and I completely understand why you stopped. Lol. It's a headache 😫

I just learned about a candle warmer last week, I have a question, while the candle is on the warmer and some of the wax melts do you empty some of the wax out or leave it in the jar?
@phenixology10 ай бұрын
👋 HI. Do not pour off the wax. You might pour out some of the fragrance oil. Once you no longer get any fragrance from the wickless candle or wax melt, then you can discard the cooled wax.

I didn't realize that you had to test the wick, I thought that you could use any wick. That's why my candles wasn't doing right when it was lit.
@phenixology10 ай бұрын
@monijacq01 you are testing to make sure you have the right wick size. The wick size helps determine how well your candle burns. You don't necessarily have to test burn every fragrance, but you can get a baseline for the jar size, fragrance oil amount used and type of wax being used.

Thank you for sharing your crafting process. I too am starting a candle business with my autistic daughter who just graduated from high school. We wish you all the success you can manage :) If I may, this is the "candle math" I use with an example. Also if I may add, make sure your jar can hold the amount wax. From the factory, jars are measured in ounces of water and a 10oz jar is not going to hold 10oz of wax as the same amount of wax will use more volume of space. It is more likely (unless wax volume is specifically stated) a 10oz jar will hold 7-8oz. I use 12 -14oz jars to make my 10oz candles. OF = Oil Fragrance & Wt = Weight Candle NetWt / (100% + OF%) = WaxWt Candle NetWt - WaxWt = OF Wt 10oz / (100% + 8%) =9.2oz WaxWt 10oz - 9.2oz = 0.8oz (or 23 grams) OF

Hello, Thanks for sharing and candle education. ❤ 1 ? When measuring the fragrance oil in percentage is it measured in ounces on the scale ? For example 8% is that equal to 8 oz? Thanks
@phenixology10 ай бұрын
Hi. Thanks for watching. Here's the formula for fragrance oil Formula for Calculating FO (oz of wax) x (% of FO wanted) = (oz of FO needed). 8% will be 0.08 when doing the formula. Use a scale. Fragrance oil is measured by weight in oz.
@jennifermohler18629 ай бұрын
It would only be 8oz of fragrance if you use 100 oz of wax. If you use 50 oz of wax it would need 4 oz of fragrance. 25oz wax, 2 oz fragrance and so forth. First determine how much wax to use then multiply that number by 8% (or .08) then you will have an accurate number for fragrance oil. Dont forget to look at the usage rates recommended by the supplier as well because it may be higher or lower that 8%.

They're beautiful but how would you do it when places start to order by the bulk.
@phenixology10 ай бұрын
Hi. Thanks for watching 🤗. With those types of candles, I make at least 20 each size to keep on hand. If they need more, then I extend the ship date. If you're doing a large batch, then it will take a lot of patience and time. The more you do them, the faster you will become, and you will have a process in place. I line mine up and work on multiple at a time.
