Re-imagining fairytales is one of the exercises that Neil Gaiman recommends in his excellent Master Classes on Storytelling. (I'm watching them on Hoopla, free through my local library.) T. Kingfisher (aka Ursula Vernon)is doing the same thing very well with "Thornhedge", which won a Locus Award and is nominated for a Hugo.

Almost finished with the audiobook and have enjoyed every second of it! I have no idea how Andy mentally designs and explains all the technological and scientific pieces and so flawlessly incorporates them into and as a major part of the story. So insane! Grace and Rocky forever!

....or not because college being free means professors aren't being paid to teach so why do a good job if they even bother to show up?....not too bright this one.....must have gone to one of those free colleges

Because they actually love teaching and being with their students? A lot of them think of their students as their children.

PHM is definitely one of my all time favourite books and the audiobook version is incredible. Ray Porter really brings the book alive. Even if you have read PHM I would still recommend everyone to listen to the audiobook. It’s AMAZE!

Martha Wells' ability to fold in so many important and cool elements is what makes these books tremendously fun and satisfying. I listened to them all over again after finishing them, and picked up on things I hadn't even been able to absorb at first. Ms Wells is truly talented as a writer: to be able to invoke deep feelings, inspire creativity with technology, and excite us with awesome action and dialogue sequences. I'm so glad she wrote these books!
