Was onboard with the 5th MEB on our way to Kuwait in ‘90-‘91. She survived Typhoon Russ. We called her the “NO” boat due to the strict Captain who had a common “No” response to everything. It was my first cruise and I remember hearing the 1MC call for “Snoopy”. I had no idea what that was and a fellow Marine said it was probably due to us about to get overflown by the Russians. I asked if I could go up top and watch and everyone said sure. Flight Ops were secured and there was nothing in deck. I thought the Bear was going to fly by off in the distance. I walked all the way forward and heard the distinct sounds of those propellers and looked up to see it flying straight over me flanked by 2 Harriers. I always wanted to see if Ivan would print me off a picture I know they have of me standing in between the numbers 11 as they flew over. I did get S2 to get me a copy of that Bear and still have it framed. Good times

Not only do you live in Paradise as an encouragement. You have those who pray for you and love you as a brother. And above all you have been born again to a new life in Christ. So, as Colossians 3:1 says, keep seeking the things above where Christ is, for you have been seated in the heavenlies! And from one who is in his later 70's, you are still a youngster. :)

I more or less learned how to surf there as a 35-year-old grom in the early 80s, and around the corner at Devereau. I never got as good as the folks in the film, but I got to where I could have a LITTLE fun...

I remember your name. My squad was Glover, Hanson, Eperson, and Potter.
@steveearp77228 ай бұрын
@@venturasurfing I can't recall those names, I remember a Mootsey and LT. Gunther was our platoon officer. Gunny Betz and a SSGT who was black. I also remember helping to hump those mortar tubes and base plates along with my radio on long marches into the bush. Your face looks familiar, too. I lost my float book years ago in a move.

I remember Mootsey well, he played the guitar a lot in the barracks. I got sent to Headquarters for disobeying a lawful order. Gunny Betz was on duty with the commander. He asked me to explain, then met with the commander. He came back out and said, "Don't expect anything for Christmas. Now get out of here." Good man!

Amazing how flat the water is.
@marleneray10445 ай бұрын
that's because the earth is flat. Flat water flat earth. We can see too far for the globe's curve math to work. 8 inches per mile squared. The islands would be mostly behind the curve and not the way we actually see them.

In 1978 while on an oceangoing fleet tug USS Takelma, we were tasked to go to aid of one New Orleans' sister ship's; Iwo Jima. We were towing a target and had to bring alongside and set out to find lt. Well after midnight found her, had an uneventful hook and set out for San Diego. An LPH is roughly the size of a WWII carrier. It took almost two weeks to reach SD. Got an "atta boy" from CINCPAC. Also I recall a letter that I was there and participated in the hook-up.

93-94 13th MEU Somalia - remember racing the Denver maybe 100 yards off starboard. Also remover every time we refueled at sea they’d play that Willy Nelson song ‘City of New Orleans ‘ through the intercom system….can’t help but think back every time I hear that song.
