11RMY or 8.5RMY both look the same. If you have a CH25 engine then you have an 11RMY. There should be a silver label below the controls under the front cover. Also, there is a video of this generator being installed approximately 4 years ago on my channel.

Me and my son, we found this generator on the side of a road. It's a 1750 KOHLER And we're trying to figure out how to get this one started. It's in really bad condition. It needs a lot of work and I was trying to see if there's anyone that might have some kind of a video that could show us kind of like a step-by-step how to get this generator back into shape again. We don't know much about. How to fix this generator and we're just trying to see. There's any way that somebody might have a video that could kind of show us. We've already replaced the spark plug and we have started cleaning the parts and putting it back on and still the generator is not starting. And I know the guy put it out by the curve.Because it's really old and needs work
@chatrkat
@chatrkat 4 ай бұрын
I have a 1750w Kohler as well. They are well built old machines. There are parts are available for that K91 engine, the generator parts are obsolete. First and foremost you must get spark before doing anything else. There is a small chance your generator may suffer from the same problem as mine, the magnets in the flywheel have become weak, I did manage to find a good used flywheel for mine. But before you worry about that, you must be sure the points are spotless clean and gapped at .020 and have a good condenser. Let me refer you to: Tayrl Fixes All here on KZfaq. Go through his playlists, he shows exactly how to service points and condenser on a Kohler of that vintage. The ignition is basically the same on all the K series Kohler engines. Also aftermarket carburetor’s are available for very little money, usually they work fine but it’s a gamble with those occasionally. Spend time on Taryl’s channel, you will get a very good education on small engines, and have fun watching most likely. Good luck with your project. ~Keith

That screw is the low speed mixture. It should have a stop tab on the screw. Turn CCW until it hits the stop. *if no stop tab then turn CW until it stops then open 1-1/2 turns CCW to begin. Then warm engine, set throttle to idle and adjust that mixture a little either direction to achieve smooth idle.

FYI - shutting off the fuel and running it until it stops does not completely empty the fuel bowl. There is still enough fuel there to gum up the jet. Ask me how I know.
@chatrkat
@chatrkat 4 ай бұрын
Yes I realize that, you are exactly correct. Longer term storage I always pull the drain plug on the bowl, sometimes even squirt a little carb cleaner in the hole to rinse the bottom of the bowl clean. In the case of no drain, like a Tecumseh carb, I loosen the bowl nut slightly to drop the bowl just enough to let the gas drip out. If carb is inaccessible without taking stuff apart, I will run a cup of Engineered Fuel through after draining the gas tank. Then run it out of gas again, at least that way there’s no alcohol gas setting in the very bottom.

You can always remove the ground at the engine! Amzoil makes "MP HD". It's a penetrant with grease. The solvent carrier evaporates leaving a waxy film. I set up my solar that way. I'm running three 48v banks of 445Ah L16s. I polished every terminal and connector, tightened it all down and then a liberal application of MP HD. After 2 years I have ZERO corrosion! I also retired my Winco 8K. (Still have it. Just...retired...) Got a deal on a Kohler propane 12K liquid cooled 1800 rpm 1.3L 4 cylinder for $2500. Runs the house while throwing 6500 watts at the batteries and never approaches full load. Should last me a while! Say, did you ever check the water in that battery??
@chatrkat
@chatrkat 5 ай бұрын
Hi JB, thanks for the information ithat product sounds better than my current method. I still have that old battery here, I turned in an older dead one. I’ve not yet spent any time on the battery I pulled out. I have one of those Chinese devices that’s supposed to restore a somewhat sulfated battery 😂. I will be trying that and most likely making a video in stages to see if it actually does any good. Now that Kohler LP genset is a great upgrade and certainly you got it for a good price. The Winco is just a basic power plant. The Kohler is obviously a much better quality machine, it should hold real stable voltage & frequency. I still have my Winco too. It’s setting at my other property, it needs to be sold ASAP as I’m cleaning that place to be sold. ~ Good to hear from you my friend.

I have that exact honda motor. The 1st issue was that it snapped the rod in half. 3 months later, it snapped the cam in half, Honda said there are no known issues and refused to let me make a claim about it. I now know why there are no known issues, Honda won't let them be known. Both parts have visible defects in the casting, myself and 9 other techs agree on it being defective casting.
@chatrkat
@chatrkat 5 ай бұрын
As much as I like Honda GX engines, it’s my opinion the newer units are built as well. In your case, when the rod let go, it probably struck the cam and may well have stressed the middle where it is thinner. I assume the engine had proper oil level and was not overspeeding? However I can totally believe the rod casting may have been compromised when made.

Those new dehumidifiers are so cheaply made now. I wonder if a barb fitting can be tapped into the bucket and make it last a few mor years for him, or a bucket bypass was still available.

When I checked it yesterday the drain pump was functioning properly. I’m thinking homeowner didn’t press “pump” button to enable it. Controls are confusing on this unit. I have a Chinese unit similar. Bucket is so thin it probably won’t support a fitting. I decided the machine was not worth lot of labor, I drilled a 3/8” hole in bucket and place it directly over one of the floor drains at my basement.

@@chatrkat it is good that you got it working for him, and helped him out with so much already . Thank you for watching and posting a comment. My Honda snowblowers always start easily, after i remember to turn on the key switch. I firmly believe my success is running the gas out of the carb bowl when I’m finished using them. Same with all my equipment. End of season all gasoline is removed. I have ethanol gas here, can’t let that crap set too long in any small engine. Yes that drive disc adjustment is critical. As I stated in the video, I really like that HS55, perfect size and plenty of power for my requirements when a single stage isn’t enough. I have a HS724 at another property. I love the smooth hydrostatic drive, I assume your HS928 is equally as nice to use. I have videos published on several Honda powered machines I own. I am a big fan of Honda equipment and Honda small engines.

I have the same engine on my unit. These are the mods I have done on my my 12PT Mckissic: replaced the clutch on with a Hilliard Extreme clutch. Much heavier duty than the stock clutch. Beefed up the motor mount with angle iron and welding. The stock motor mount flexed so badly I couldn't hold the belt adjustment. Welded the tips of the flail hammers with tool steel welding rod. The stock hammers are only mild steel and they wear quickly. I am on my third season of running 100 ea. 30 gallon barrels of leaves through it and they are showing minimal wear.
