Odd coincidence (?) that Keira Kneightley also plays "the Dutchess" who in real life was the wife of the 5th Duke of Devonshire, lord of "Pemberly" aka Chatsworth. A real Bastid. The Dutchess' name was Giorgiana.

The visit to Elizabeth at the cottage is sooo painful to watch ( said as an introvert). He even made Elizabeth insecure and shes normally excellent at handling socially awkward or challenging moments. Every time I watch that part i literally die inside

I hate the 2005 adaption so much. It seriously leans into a single line from the book and drops the rest. Darcy isn't awkward and shy. He's proud, haughty, and selfish. He literally tells Elizabeth right before they become engaged that he's been a selfish being all his life and would have continued to be if not for Elizabeth's influence. I know Austen frequently gets adapted into romance films, but the books aren't romances at all. They're biting social satires that actually mock romances.

The last scene is an out~take. It wasn’t in the film.

Darcy admits to holding life long grudges ~red flag! Clearly feels he is vastly superior to the locals, and is shocked that he’s attracted to one of them. Another red flag. However, his lust for her forces him to secretly cover up a scandal in her family, which Elizabeth views as kindness and in the end, his great fortune and position in Society wins the day. I love Jane Austen’s books!

The commentator’s thoughts echo mine. I have watched this movie many times and never tire of its freshness. That Jane Austen understood relationships much as we do today is a reminder that we humans didn’t just start having meaningful interactions…it’s been going on for eons.

In this movie Darcy is much more of an introvert and shy man than really proud. In the book he is quite introverted too but he IS arrogant and proud. He says so himself. The Darcy most like the book’s was Colin Firth. I love Darcy in the book and also the 1995 version but Matthew is my favorite.
