Could the makers of these films get rid of the drum machine music? Interferes with the glorious sound of the actual car.

Crazy, I was there sitting under the overhang. I actually was watching him pull into the pits with a pair of binoculars I saw him trying to get out of the car. Because the flames are clear I couldn’t see the flames. Incredible to see it again.

1996 was the last year of the 2.65L V8T. 1997 brought NA cross plane V8 which sounded like a stockcar and was 20 mph per lap slower. Indycar has not recovered since the split.

I think that it is "peculiar" that they just happened to have filmed a segment detailing the fireproofing and resistance each piece of the gear a driver wears in the cockpit of an Indy Car and ran it right after all this happened. Could be just a coincidence and I hope that it was but..... 🤔

I’m back after watching the 234.22 yesterday. I need someone to make a visualization that shows how quickly Arie would be walking away. Record laps in succession, faster the further he goes. That NEVER happens anymore.
@whywoulditellyou002 ай бұрын
Why are the engines not as good now as 30 years ago? What happened. They even sound better then. They even look better. I just watched the 2024 time trials today and they were going on on about how 234 was an all-time indie record ? How?
@goodtimeblimp2 ай бұрын
Well they are smaller for starters, 2.7L V8 vs 2.2L V6. The old V8s produced around 900-980 HP compared to 800Hp from the v6s. This was just the natural progression as manufacturers were focused on road relevance and downsizing.
@nolancain87922 ай бұрын
This record came on qualifying day 2. Arie’s car was underweight on day 1 so his 235 lap was disallowed. Despite doing this, he started 21st due to being on the second day.

Amazing story...of both "I.M.S. 500" record holders. The loss of Britain's Dan Wheldon was tragic! I wonder if he would have been with Indy Car wins like Will Power or Scott Dixon?

Donald always IS the I.M.S. Historian that is, as of this month: May, 2024, celebrating his 60th Year of being "the man with the Speedway history". Now I know about the 1970's to some of the '80's years of Spike Gillhausen...where he got his first name via the harlious "Spike Jones Band" of the 1940's and '50's. Haha!

Had front row seats for both, but 1982 was better than 1992. Mears actually got next to Johncock after chasing him down and Gordy, with the lesser car handling terribly, fought him off then kept his car off the wall for the last lap. Great list but how could it be otherwise when Rathmanm-Ward is No. 10? I liked Helio’s 4th win because it was a huge upset and it was our first 500 back after the year when it was run with no fans.
