Great breakdown of season 1 and of racism. Racist don't need a "reason" to do harmful acts. People are you quick to say what we shouldn't have done when these horrific things happen. But in truth, it's not the victims fault only the perpetrators.

The characters of Chiara and Ludovica are loosely based on the “Baby Squillo Scandal” in Rome. A 14 year old and a 15 year old from affluent families got involved in prostitution by answering an online advertisement. They wanted to do this to buy clothes, expensive tech devices, etc. Huge scandal involving politicians, businessmen, and the husband of Mussolini granddaughter.

You didn't get the point of the series. The aim is not to show migrants'journey and cross focus on their suffering, although it does a good job at doing it with Ameer's story with the smugglers (which happens very often). Other movies abd documentaties do that very well. I worked with refugees, and I was impressed to see how accurate the serie is. It's not about white guilt, but the série focus is the detention system, and it shows how individuals can not really beat the system. They can resist, but it's often by quitting, speaking out or by slowly dehumanising the refugees as the cruel officier. Also, the stories of family separation are accurate, same with the need to share a verified story for the refugees. It makes it very complicated for them because if people don't believe them they will be kept in for a very long time. They can easily be criminalised as smugglers although it happens that some have no other choise that to work for tge smugglers because they dont have money anymore to pay for the crossing. The focus is on the immigration system, especially detention that dehumanises both refugees and the workers there. The camp is stage where the drama happens the space, the location in the desert everything is very accurate as many detention centers are purposedly located in remote areas, excluded from any community. The show is made in Australia that has one of the harshest immigration system in the world the audience is the people from those receiving countries (US, Australia, Europe) for them to think critically on how their perceive and treat others, especially people coming from the Global South.

Great review. I want to point out that abuse should never win anyone's love. I applaud Mariko. Banturo thinks he can be an abusive a**hope for how long? And he thinks serving tea will fix it? It's not about the Anjin because we saw him being mean to her when there was no connection between her and Anjin, which Banturo has no actual proof of anyway. Abusers will cry and plead to win their victim back then repeat cycle.

Serve tea in tea cerimony is an art and it was supposed to be a demonstration of appreciation to Mariko and allow her to speak freely and heartfully (as she has sure did). Almost like the tea house is a psicologist office. In the book this ritual aspect is clearer.
@lthomas6022
@lthomas6022 Ай бұрын
@@victordill I get that it is a ritual. And you're right she did speak freely. On top of the tea ceremony being a cultural ritual, I felt like he was doing it then to win her over. I just know that abusers can work like that going from mean to nice and back again. Both actors were great in that scene.

I dont agree. There are Millions of people who are brought up in the Ghetto that have legal jobs. Uber Drivers, Security Guards, Takeaway owners… Successful hard working people with good houses and a good income. Striving for Designer clothes and expensive cars is no justification for selling drugs and murdering people.

I commented last time that the not coming home at night was a problem for me. My dad was an entrepreneur and in the beginning it took a LOT of his time. But he always came home because my mom (his wife) was a priority and his family was a priority. He made sure to spend extra time with me even though that meant going to work with him for years. Families can not be onesided no matter what that family looks like. Clay only said good things about AD as in how she helps him, but AD has qualities that shouldn't have anything to do with HIM. Though Clay was being open with AD, he should have gotten help previously. Someone has to break cycles, and that can't be done by making excuses and not getting help. AD should NOT date Clay after. Her only fault is low self image . AD needs to really work to build herself up and get her self esteem and self worth where it should be. If she doesn't she will keep trying to fix men. I'm happy that Jimmy left too. Chelsea would have broken him. As a single mom of a boy and a girl. I pour into them how special they are, to treat people kindly, to surround yourself with positive people, and don't put up with anyone treating you as less than. Prayerfully they grow up and always know their worth and be kind to their future spouses.

I 100% agree, like you said even the busiest entrepreneurs can find a way home. But we know based on his Dad what a ride a long could look like. So who knows what Clay was actually doing. Chelsea woulda definitely broke him. He got out of there! And that’s exactly how you should raise good. They’ll turn out great!
