What a wonderful speech. I wish people still talked like that. Like painting a picture right in front of your face using words as the painters pallet.

When JEJ sits back down and lets out that grunt/moan before saying “people will come” again, chills. What a genius he is

One of the best scenes in movie history. James Earl Jones is magnificent

Outside of the fact that I love baseball. I think one of my favorite things about this movie is that despite how crazy or unbelievable people thought Ray Kinsella was, he continued to push to see his vision come true. And I love that in this scene it shows that Terence Mann went from being highly skeptical in what Ray was trying to do, to being fully on board with Ray’s vision.

The romance in baseball is unlike any other, it is America's pastime for a reason. The one constant through the years has been baseball. True words.

UK here, was fortunate to go to a baseball game once. Anaheim Angels vs Cleveland Indians. Supported the Angels and didn't even care they lost. The atmosphere, the spirit, it really did feel what America used to be about. People there need to remember what it was like the first time they went to a game as a kid or imagine what it's like as a visitor going for the first time. So many things about the US I disagree with (states running themselves, gun laws, health insurance to name a few) but the passion and spirit of what America is, that's something you can't fault, the message has just gotten lost and needs to be found again.

Because those complaining have forgotten what baseball really did without people even realising it. It helped racial divides to be broken, it aided women's rights when they made the AAGPBL. They don't realise 100 years ago there were no 'non-whites' in MLB or women playing professional baseball apart from a couple of rare incidents. Now they want women to be paid the same as men or trans playing their gender desired leagues. They've forgotten what has already happened and just want more.

Can't get past a black man trying to promote the nostalgia of 1920s era baseball when everything was "good" unlike, presumably, the present. How did they ignore that the baseball this black man was nostalgically recalling was not open to people of color and that only white people could have the memories he spoke of? In an otherwise spectacular film, the complete absence of any handling of segregation and discrimination still bugs me more than I wish.

You could have that rumbling baritone recite Mary Had a Little Lamb and it would be a hit! If you give him something that is really well written, in that baritone with James Earl Jones and grab you by the roots and just resonate!

It is natural for folks to want to retreat back to their younger days. Before time and life wears you down. A window where truth and ricghoesess was a North Star and politicians didn't destroy the dream.

I know All about the Field of dreams. You see I grew up in the fields of cotton, potatoes, strawberries, cherrys, tomatoes, pickles, carrots, watermelons from 5 years till I graduated in 1973. Joined the army, finished my tour, went to trade with the G. I. Bill. Got associates degree in computer electronics. Hired by I. B. M. Retired after 22 years. Fully pensioned. Yes those Fields of dreams had a major impact in my life. Thank God.

I managed to get to the Field of Dreams from Australia last year. I just realised I sat right with Kevin Costner sat. The speech says they will pay because they have money and its peace they need. So so true, I sat and took it all in and let all the bad out. It may be Iowa but it is heaven

This monologue wouldn't have been nearly as good if another actor had played the role. The conviction of James Earl Jones' voice lends authenticity to this scene. He wasn't just reciting. His facial expressions, his hand gestures, his demeanor are perfect. The movie itself was made infinitely better by the presence of Mr. Jones - a true American treasure in entertainment.
