that pp section in the middle part of the doppio movimento before the climax her choice to diminish all the inside chords and keep the melody alone in despair is just one of the kind

Yuck. Seriously. His coda is a very impressive display of finger work and also musical nonsense. Listen to Vladimir Ashkenazy’s later performance. He is one who mastered both the finger work AND the music and story being told. I’ve heard this like a thousand times in my life. Music and story first. Speed and awe second. If you don’t have the former down I don’t even care about the latter.

When a genius is born who creates masterpieces like this again, the master is the one who plays the genius who creates.

I'd hate to say, because I can't play as good as him and I'm nobody to say this but... Around 6:07 I hear a small mistake 🤧 (Disclaimer: I love this artist, I just couldn't stand that tiny mistake. This js no hate speech, so don't take it as one)

Always wondered if professional pianists ever got jealous of the musicians who could carry their instrument with them. Like have their favorite violin with them at every performance. It isn't like these pianists carry their own pianos. I don't know, maybe they do lol. But I guess in the end, they don't have to spend millions of dollars to get a great violin )))

It's one thing to play at your home with no one watching vs playing to a large audience. Props to the competitors who keep their nerves controlled.

Does anyone know where to purchase the hi-fi version of the complete set of pieces he played at the 17th competition? The album I found on Apple Music doesn't include tracks such as the 10-1 and the Scherzo in B flat minor Op.31.
