It’s to bad the middle note horn is silent, back around 2010 or 11 it stopped sounding. There is a few older videos of her on KZfaq where all three are sounding and it sounds amazing. Still sounds good but better when it’s all 3

It's lovely to hear the Barker's steam horn again since the only other sources were two videos, one of them being an old documentary when she was the Benson Ford (II). She's a real beauty, I believe that she was the flagship of the Cliffs fleet and that's why she has a triple deck up front! She and the Lee are beautiful vessels.

Same, she had a quiet yet lovely sounding Leslie. My favorite sounding triple A class was the Reserve back when she had her 300-425 set. Reminds me of my electric organ whenever I play on it.

That's the best recording out there of all three horns! I believe that's a clip from the 1959 documentary "The Long Ships Passing" - the Shenango II was practically brand new at the time!

I’d really hoped to see this ship someday. She’s the longest ‘classic’ laker other than Stewart J. Cort. It’s sad that her life must end prematurely, by the same disaster that pushed back her completion a full year.

There isn't a recognized king of the lakes, as ships are traditionally referred to as "she." However, USCGC Alder, a U.S. Coast Guard buoy tender formerly stationed in Duluth, Minnesota, was given the motto "King of the Waters" during her time on the Great Lakes!
