The ports one and two seem to have a buffering issue. The one thing I would check is the solder connections on HDMI one. That is the most used port and could have a stress fracture on both boards. Reflow the old board and try it again.

The setting people are referring to changes the characteristics of the HDMI port to accept higher bandwidth signals. Each manufacturer has their own name for it. Turning it OFF will reduce the data rate allowing a poor quality cable to work or a failing HDMI port to struggle on, The reason you cannot find it is because Samsung dont call it that , In this TV the setting is called HDMI UHD Colour (Settings -> General -> External Device Manager -> HDMI UHD COLOUR). If a port never works then try re-writing the EDID from the Factory Menu. If it is erratic the HDMI socket cound be damaged. The 'unknown' thing is a highly annoying feature that attempts to label every port with the name of the connected device.

Hi Allen, wonder if it’s just a problem with hdmi-1 ? Anynet+ is a function that will switch on or off any device connected by hdmi when the tv is switched on/off As mentioned in a previous comment, HDMI UHD Colour expands the hdmi signal to make the most of any input higher than standard 1080p eg 4k. I do not have this option enabled on my current Samsung tv, it seems to make no difference to a normal HD source

Extended warranty - £60+ per year. TV goes tits up after 5 years and it's cost nearly £250, cost of new TV - £300. No problems after 6 years and you're in profit. BTW - my TV isn't connected to the Interweb, so LG can't listen to me in my own home, can't track my usage and can't sell my info.

My dad used to frequently call me around to sort his TV system out because he would by £100 monster SCART cables that would just fall out as they were too heavy for the plugs. The amount of times I would tell him a good quality cable was all he needed not a £100 SCART cable that always fall out. And that's almost right for HDMI as long as the signal gets there and doesn't drop out then it should just work. I have my pc sending 4k/60fps to my TV over a 10m HDMI cheap cable from eBay and it just works. The TV should just work , you shouldn't need to know what all the settings mean just to get it to work. Also Deep colour, would that be 10bit/8bit ?

Don't understand why so many factories use such ice cold blue LED. light all the time? I have it on my IPS. screen in my huawei honor8. IMPOSSIBLE to adjust the correct white balance. you will always get a too cold blueish image. Sometimes too red. That's why my favorite is LCD with Fluorescent light. LED, LED screens also have other problems that LED screens often struggle with, which is due to incorrect use of LEDs. bulbs. 1.Flickering since the light controller runs at too low a frequency 2. LEDs. driven too hard. 3.Does not spread well enough but stronger straight ahead and creates weak light spots. 4. Phosphor coating inside the LED. the bulb is burned away by the heat and then creates the violet light.

Notice that the back light flickers a lot. I think there is a current regulator for the LED lights that runs at too low a frequency. Or the work light you use that is the problem?

Hi Allen. Do you have any answer as to why so many LCD monitors struggled so much with the image stuttering and flickering when images moved quickly across the screen? I have experienced this with both LG. Samsung LCD. screens I have owned. doesn't help if they are 200Hz top model or 100Hz lowest model, same problem. Do you have any explanation, experiences? You have functional (100hz motion plus) settings and the like which did not work so well. My theory is that the image processor was always too weak. Could also be hdmi input which is too slow. Sorry if I'm using the wrong words. Do you have any explanation, experiences?

Remember the SCART days even a basic scart cable would work as intented, then you got the heavy quality cables which use to force the plug out of the socket usually at the cable end, then someone thought a flat cable was better with high quality metal plugs..but HDMI should work even on a basic cable no need for all the fancy high quality cores of cable ,back in the day of HI-FI seperates you would often get RCA phono leads bundled they were not fancy & they worked.

Perhaps a close under-a-microscope visual inspection of HDMI 1 is required, both externally and internally. Supposedly there is an HDMI troubleshooting mode under support-self diagnostics but I have no idea whether this will provide anything useful.

I've experienced similar odd behavior with the Smatboards in the school where I'm a Physics technician. The board specifications limit the length of HDMI leads to 4.75m, but using (high quality) leads over 4m cause problems. intermittent loss of signal or failure to recognise connected computer/DVD. Often switching to standby and back on sorts the issue. Sometimes completely rebooting (mains off/on) solves the issue for a week or two.No long term solution though.

My LG sets have that setting, it's probably just LG marketing terminology for standard RGB without chroma subsampling. I would expect Samsung to have some equally grandiose term for it. I had to shop around for some time to find a 5 meter cable that wouldn't drop signal with uncompressed 4K video from a desktop PC. Your problem seems to be different though, you're not asking that much of the TV or the cable.

What is the difference between HDMI and HDMI-CEC cable? Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) is a feature of HDMI designed to allow users to command and control devices connected through HDMI by using only one remote control. For example, by using the remote control of a television set to control a soundbar, set-top box and or Blu-ray player.

i did one of these where the tape trick didnt work, so i looked on the boards attached to the panel and right at the end of the left hand side board there was a resistor network component, one of those bank of resistors stuck together type deals, which was getting hot everytime the screen flickered.. i removed the component which resulted in no picture at all, so i put link wires over all of the resistor "links" untill i found which one particular line had the problem, and when i removed that one resistor from the bank of them so to speak, the tv worked fine and has been working fine for about 6 months and counting , (its my front room tv now) the tv model number is a ue50nu7400u

Charity shop electrical tester here - we get a LOT of TVs (only outnumbered in donations by lamps). I'd say I have an 80% success rate with them. I do find it's the newer ones that have problems. Had to bin a 41" Sony today as it wouldn't even power up. But a month ago I got a 4:3 Sony from 2007 that works perfectly (though it still hasn't sold, even though I priced it at £15). I think the public would be horrified to learn exactly how many TVs went to the recycling after a small amount of time after manufacture. I can generally coax even old VHS recorders back to life, but TVs? No. What you have is usually what you get.

Great video Allen as always, yes that 2700uf cap in the older vestels was always the culprit, never really got any screen issues at all with them, but samsung now on the other hand the later stuff, your right about the screen issues all started really from the mu series and just got worse, we at work see a lot of 50" samsung with panel failure blank screen but bl lit and rebooting, the 50" seemed a lot worse, weve had 100's of them but nothing we can do, happens loads with 55/65/75 even 43" and the other problem is they will come on perfect for a few minutes then the picture will start twitching vertically like double image every few seconds, but the older vestel was pretty much bullet proof, sort of new what the problem was with the vestel, just from the thumbnail, but take care and keep up the good work

I get what you mean about people wanting to keep old and familiar stuff going. Last Sunday I had an older couple come in to the repair cafe with a portable DVD player that no longer works on battery. Sure enough, there was a big puffy lithium battery pack inside. I could only find one on ebay and at £13 its probably not far short of buying a newer DVD model. It's only a Bush/Argos budget thing. However, dementia is a cruel beast. He still knows how to use this system and his wife said she would buy a brand one but it'd confuse him too much. Later that evening I checked ebay again and that battery was sold. I hope it was his wife and I get to see them come in again in a couple of weeks time. A least they won't get a bill, repair cafes are run by volunteers and I really want to fix this for them.

How this TV acts is actually an advantage. I've seen LG and Samsung TVs which had less sophisticated protection for the backlight, and it caused the light diffusor lenses and the white backround plastic sheet to burn with actual flames when an LED failed! The plastics had enough fire retardant in them so the fire stopped, but it still burnt a 3-5 cm diameter hole in the white backing, and burnt the diffusor into a black blob. Maybe Sony went a bit over the top with this protection, but it is better than an actual fire inside your TV, when you can only hope the fire retardants will do their job. What TV manufacturers should do, is make the backlights replacable again. In the last 5 years, almost all TVs have the LCD panel glued into the frame with a strong double sided tape, which causes a high risk of breaking the panel as you try to remove it to access the backlight strips.
