Good ideas. I don't like the off center pulling setups either. Many also have very weak connection between engine and winch; capstan types too. Jack shaft fixes centering, and ease of gear ratios. Exhaust is in a good place, bigger muffler could be nice. Would it be easier to build a bigger jack shaft with a spool, bearings, etc., instead of modifying an electric winch? May be made stronger too. Yes, I am thinking of portable winches; I may put one on a log splitter; detachable, so still portable.

I have a video of my wheel horse tractor, just dont know how send it your way. I orginally built her with a Kohler command 15 horse, however, i had broken studbolt end up in the cylinder. Very minimal damage, but after pulling the cylinder head, replacing the head gasket and putting it all back together, damn thing will not start. Would you have any ideas as to why it wont start besides spark, its getting plenty of spark
@creepycrawler436 ай бұрын
Check your valve clearance, they might be to tight and leaking off all your compression or to loose and not opening enough to run
@creepycrawler436 ай бұрын
Get a can of starting fluid and see if it will start on that, if it will you have a fuel problem if it won’t it’s likely a valve problem

UPDATE: I’ve used this 10-15 times about 6 of those to jump start my duramax and it’s been working great. One time it wouldn’t start my Duramax but it was stone dead and it wouldn’t start with one car jump starting it with traditional jumper cables, had to end up hooking two vehicles to it with jumper cables and letting them run for about a hour before it would start

more info on this setup , would it be posible to run the chainsaw in reverse , 2 stroke run backwards in snowmobile land to elimante weight for a reverse gear in the chaincase, at least you figured that issue out , most other builder has no way to release the tension too unhook!
@creepycrawler439 ай бұрын
It probably would you would have to find a way to start it in reverse though, could do it with a cordless drill. Right now there’s still to much reduction to pull the cable back out by hand so I take a cordless drill with me and use a nut driver on it to run the winch backwards.

Sunstar nut here, make sure to keep the front axle pivot points greased, they’re very intricate and a heavy wear point, and parts no longer available. Best thing about those old tractors is the fact that there are alot of grease points
