My favorite plant convergent evolution, probably because it's the grossest, is convergent evolution that produces odors of decay, death, rotting, meat, etc. to attract pollinators. I imagine plenty of vultures, hyenas, and other large animal scavengers are continuously disappointed!

The adelgid is NATIVE, (yes NATIVE) to the Pacific Northwest of the USA, where a winter active beetle predator called Laricobius nigrinus holds the adelgid in check. The beetle is well established in western North Carolina and hemlocks here are glorious and haven't had any controls since 2009. We have our hemlock ecosystem BACK with the introduction of this important predator. It should be released on all hemlocks in the east.
