It's nice to see Batman the Animated Series still has a huge fan base. Love the video and the thing scarecrow hangs his coat on and batgirl tackles is an old school TV antenna

It's annoying that Jeffrey Combs voiced Scarecrow in the revamp, but in this episode has no dialogue except a couple of grunts and laughing briefly. Also, it's the debut of "Gimp Mask Bane".

You who were too young to know the clothes rack was an outdoor building tv antenna. Like the one that goes on top, but there was a time that city buildings had lower floors extend a line all the way to the roof to help with the buildings interfering with signal.

Interesting, I had never heard the term "gateway horror". The movie "Freddy Vs Jason" was my gateway horror movie.
@TommyNoPickles11 күн бұрын
Oh really? Yeah Gateway Horror is a term used to describe the ‘entry level’ version of what will inevitably turn into a passion/obsession later in life. A lot of us grew up watching Goosebumps, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Courage. These shows acted as the entry point in our early horror/spooky addiction. AYAOTD was the gate we walked through, to get to things like Scream, Black Mirror, and other modern horror properties. Speaking of Freddy vs Jason, I always think of the line about how Freddys Christmas sweater isn’t scary lol.

@@TommyNoPickles I'm definitely interested in watching you do a video on it. You've got a level of honesty and realness that most reviewers don't. And man, I'll never forget my first time seeing that episode, it's a very striking memory if you're down to hear it; Also, Nightwing's suit (and the other Bat Family suits) weren't bulletproof until around the 2000's to 2010's when comics became more modernized. Which means that (at the time) if they were being shot at, they'd just have to be crazy good at dodging or just get ventilated.

Hey Tommy No pickles lol cool name by the way. For me, it’s the Batman episode when Batman is plagued visions of his parents tragic deaths at the hands of Joe Chill. The scene where he runs down an ally way and it becomes a gigantic blood filled gun. Wow, yikes, dark shows back then, but brilliant writing and animation, better made overall than some live action movies and shows. Another disturbing episode was in the sequel show, Batman Beyond, season 2, episode 2. Earth mover, the whole idea of just being buried alive underground alone, is so unsettling alone. The whole story with the business partner, drawn to look like a chubby Bill Clinton lol. The pretty daughter Jackie Maycheck, who sadly never knew her real father, other than being haunted by his ghost in a way. Through the mud Golums, he telepathically creates to see his daughter, wherever she goes. The whole reveal of how he looks 10 years later, whooo jhezzzz, lousie. So eerie, yet so sad of an episode.

There were a lot of episodes from the TNBA run of the show that actually had me stunned thinking "they were allowed to show that on Television????" This along with Growing Pains (The Clayface Episode) and the show's adaptation of the Mad Love tie-in Comic genuinely are some of my favorite episodes from any Television show- period

I'm gonna have to say , Batman Beyond, The return of Joker. What Joker and Harley did to Robin (Tim Drake) is pretty dark and twisted. And then there is The killing Joke, even though they toned down the animated version, the book is hardcore.

Great job man! I grew up with the DCAU and I miss it. Batman Beyond is my favorite show but I love The New Batman Superman Adventures. Fantastic memories of The WB and Kids’ WB! New to your channel, loved this video. Easily the strongest episode from the TNBA run in my opinion. I believe Gordon kinda winks at Barbara when he says “all of you” at the end, which could still mean he thinks she’s “modeling” (or whatever the 1998 equivalent was) but I think the implication is that he knows. Then hits her with the “I won’t hear another word on the subject” or similar line, so it SEEMS like Barbara’s come to terms and found peace about keeping that secret? They revisited this kinda scenario in Arkham Knight, with Barbara being revealed as Batgirl/Oracle to a clueless Gordon, and it plays out as well as you’d expect. Bane’s “thought about it…didn’t work for me” line is something I’ve said in my real life because of hearing it on this episode haha. I liked the fight where Batman basically gives up and acknowledges that it doesn’t matter if they fight to the death, really hammers home that Batman has nothing to lose anymore. Subscribed to the channel, I see you’re an action figure guy so if you enjoy stop motion and collecting feel free to have a look at my channel. Excellent video here!

I think the real reason Gordon cuts off Barbra from revealing that she is Batgirl is an implication that he does know deep down, but would rather keep it a secret rather than be told officially by her. At least that's the popular theory going around anyway.

@jasonsamuels375717 күн бұрын
That's absolutely what I took away from the episode as well. That's part of the reason I'm forgiving of the "it was all a dream" ending. The other reason is that it isn't just a way to kill 20 minutes in an unmeaningful way. This isn't just a goofy fantasy episode. This is an exploration of a problematic part of Batgirl's situation in this series. For Batman, Robin, Nightwing, and Alfred, everyone who's close to them knows what's really going on. But that's not true for Batgirl. The important thing for her isn't that it happened, but that it COULD happen. That's why they needed to have that talk at the end of the episode. If they'd just ended it with her waking up and everything being fine, this wouldn't be as good of an episode as it is. The fact that it hints at the idea that Gordon suspects what's really going on unofficially is the cherry on top. I thought it was unusual for the viewer to come away from that ending with the belief that Gordon is still clueless.
@timtwoface5 күн бұрын
This is what I believe as well. It's what saves the episode from.the same old "phew, it was just a dream" trope. Excellent episode.
