This game was excellent. I couldn't put it down when I played it. The progression systems were really addictive and I really enjoyed the story. The combat system was simple to learn but fun to do and it could be a challenging game sometimes. Especially some of the later arenas. I hadn't played a game that hooked me like that in a long time.

Sad to see the ending, been watching this for like two years now. I tend to consider the entire bridge section to basically be the final boss fight against SHODAN with the cyberspace part just an after thought. I do agree that a final dash to an escape pod would have been more exciting.

I know I've already mentioned as much in a comment on your Borderlands 2 review video but I must reiterate here that I quite loved this game and am greatly anticipating the sequel provided they can essentially iterate on the first game and keep any whiffs of "modernity" out of the picture-- time will tell, I suppose, if it can remain uninfected. I didn't have any issue difficulty-wise where I felt the need to activate the cheats but I suppose I'm rather try-hard in that respect with boomer shooters and like them to be on the more-difficult-than-not side as it just gives me an even greater sense of accomplishment when I finally best the game-- not to mention that additional, glorious violence and chaos which comes attendant with any great boomer FPS.

I do love a good gore fest. :) Some of our tastes are different, it's cool. One of these days, I'd like to get to the point where I love a good challenge. Maybe then you could point me towards your favorite boomer shooter. ;)

Without even watching this whole video I'm going to say. Borderlands 2 in my opinion is regarded as one of the best games of all time. Without the introduction of the borderlands franchise, looter shooters wouldn't exist. Borderlands 2 has almost endless replay ability due to its large amount of content. It also has wide modding support and as a result can be played for thousands of hours with great enjoyment.
@JohnLocksleyАй бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed the game! One of my buddies is a huge fan, and has hundreds (or thousands) of hours in it. I can see the appeal, even though I don't really play shooters.

Are you really comparing a game that came out 12 years ago to modern shooters? Did you play the game Coop at all? Thats where it shines. Let me know when you compare Space invaders to Starfield.
@JohnLocksleyАй бұрын
Not comparing it to modern shooters at all, actually. And just because it's older doesn't mean it can't still be fun. If anything, I'm offended that the writing dates the game. Nope, didn't play coop. Still had some fun, though. And Space Invaders will still be remembered in a year or two when Starfield is forgotten.

@JohnLocksleyАй бұрын
Things can be made so that they're not automatically dated, though.
@JockolanternАй бұрын
Almost as though you shouldn't date your games with that kind of shit. Timelessness is not merely a good thing-- it's rather necessary for properties to be loved in any era.

This movie is like the Wizard of OZ, it is sold as a fantasy adventure movie but it has a hidden underlying meaning referring to the real world and what is going on behind the scenes by those that make the decisions.

Holy shit. Hard to believe this playthrough is finally over. Been here since the start and I've watched every episode. Nicely played, sir. Was great fun to see and learn so much more about this game's world, story, history and characters than when I played it for a hundred hours or so almost twenty years ago-- seeing as I had long since forgotten much of it and not even seen a wide swathe of the game for which your playthrough helped fill in the gaps. Bethesda would never make an Elder Scrolls game like this today, which is so sad since this game is so rich in its roleplaying and even dares to broach socio-political realities which would never be brought up in a AAA game made today.
@JohnLocksleyАй бұрын
This was a long one, but I had a lot of fun. I'm glad you got some enjoyment out of it. :) Yeah, it doesn't shy away from serious issues... It was actually refreshing to see topics like slavery just put out there, and how people on all sides deal with it. I've heard a lot of people are choosing retro games over newer games, and if they play games like Morrowind I can understand why!
@unicyclepeonАй бұрын
Thanks for the playthrough. This is weird timing, but I just discovered your channel and your playthrough a few days ago. About to start playing it while I do other stuff. I've liked the first few, and i liked the first one I stumbled over earlier this week that was recent. Good stuff.

Thank you! Yeah, my videos are kinda slow, so however you want to enjoy them is fine with me. :)
@JockolanternАй бұрын
Apparently the cringe didn't truly set in until the third game, where the series and its offshoots now appear to be truly insufferable. I'll never know. I was out after playing about ten hours of the first game and realizing it simply wasn't my jam. I was surprised to hear of your relative antipathy towards Project Warlock recently, though, as I thoroughly loved that game. I'm a complete sucker for boomer shooters though as they absolutely are my jam-- a few other modern boomer shooter favorites of mine are Prodeus, Dusk, Ion Fury, Amid Evil and two absolutely phenomenal Doom total conversion mods: Hocus Pocus Doom and Brutal Wolfenstein.
@JohnLocksleyАй бұрын
It's weird, I kinda grew up with boomer shooters but I don't love them. Project Warlock was amazing when the music was going and the action was fierce, but when it slowed down and I had to click on walls I didn't really enjoy it. That and the difficulty. Being overworked and sleep deprived gives me a low tolerance for difficulty, but I'd love to be able to overcome their challenges one day. Maybe if I ever retire. :) (Edited) So what was it about the first Borderlands that turned you off?
