I'm 68 and have been married for 50 years. When I was 8, a friend of my Father gave us many books from his Father's library. I have taken them with me in every move. They are much like yours and give me joy whenever I bring one out. It is encouraging to see your love of old books. Young people now days don't seem to understand how amazing it is to hold a book in your hands, asking where it came from. My books are like friends from the past. Thank you for sharing, I would also like to see more from your collection.

Lots of german books, so interesting. Are you able to indentify the old letters (Sütterlin)? My grandparents learnt to write like that, almost a form of art
@hymnsandhome18 күн бұрын
I studied German for 3 years in high school and I've started to try to read the old letters but it is still definitely a challenge for me! :-)

This reminds me of a collection my late father had, of Maltese novels, written in Maltese language that was so old it was written differently and was half Italian. Sadly it had become infested with tiny bugs after his passing and, not realising its value, we had thrown them away !

Oh no! That would have been so interesting to see!

Melissa, your original publication of Mary Jemison's story piqued my interest because we have only read the children's version by Lois Lenski titled Indian Captive. I would love to be able to read her original.
@hymnsandhome18 күн бұрын
I think the original was published even as late as 1967, so there could still be copies floating out there if you're interested in reading it! :-)

Hello Melissa. I greatly appreciate you and your channel. I find each video to be beautiful, relaxing, inspiring, and never a waste of my precious time! I also collect antique books. Most are leather bound circa late 1700s and early 1800s.What appeals to me is the content of the old hymnals. They don’t have musical score, just the words like some of yours. What first attracted me to your channel was its name. I love old hymns! Yes, I would enjoy seeing more of your book collection. What I would greatly enjoy hearing is hymns played by you on the organ. Do you think you could arrange that?? Maybe a special Christmas video with you playing the sweet music of Christmas??

Thank you, Rhonda! Sounds like a lovely collection you have. I would love to share some organ playing sometime.Thanks so much for watching! :-)

Seeing this made me miss the days of baby-wearing and nursing. But I definitely have those memories stored in my heart as I watch what incredible adults they are becoming. You found such cute things at Goodwill, even if it was picked over! I heard a tip from another thrifter : to go to areas that are affluent and shop those Goodwill stores. But when I do that, the prices are crazy high. Usually, tablecloths here are between $1.99 and $4.99, depending. But making a skirt out of one is so genius! Yours turned out so lovely!! 💜
@hymnsandhome20 күн бұрын
Thank you so much! Yes, I've found some of the prices at Goodwill to be quite off-putting but sometimes you can still find a deal, especially if that color tag is on sale that week. Thank you for watching! :-)
