This was amazing to watch. I can’t imagine the amount of effort, hours of rehearsal and just plain sweat and hard work that went into creating this form. I couldn’t believe that that many people could be so co-ordinated and with weapons too!! How did no one get injured?? Kudos to you my friends ❤

I live in Vegas and saw it that night too from the Taco Bell parking lot at Tropicana and Fort Apache. I remember it breaking into like 3 pieces that all appeared to fall all the way to the ground. We later watched the news and it said satellite crash or space debris or something like that.

Hi, I'm a level 1 corner judge myself so I looked at this from the perspective of one. When a drop occurs, the center judge should stop time, and the three judges should discuss the drop (similar to a warning). Most often, drops are pretty obvious. At that point, you would award one point to the competitor who didn't drop, and then call to see if any points should also be scored for the actual technique (however, the person who dropped can't score points, but the who didn't could as they may have "disarmed" their opponent.) Here's the actual text from the ATA rule book. www.atarules.com/index.php?title=COMBAT_WEAPONS_SPARRING_COMPETITION#Dropped_.26_Broken_Weapons

So am I correct in thinking that in this particular incident the the scoring and judging procedures were not handled correctly? I'm referring to the first drop situation as I believed the rest was handled correctly.

Jeff Pickett Also, on another note, the video from start of match to the point the time keeper stopped the fight was exactly 2 minutes. There were three drops and time was never called at all during the match for any of the drops.

How I w.ould have handled it would be to have time stopped after each drop, even if I wasn't 100% sure there wasn't a drop (in my experience though, it's really clear cut, I've never seen anyone fumble and then catch it or anything like that). While time is stopped you can discuss the drop and if any other points were scored. It just takes too long to figure all that out while time is still running.
