The spin reel was a 4000 Shimano Sahara with 20lb braid and 30lb fluoro leader. I also use a 4000 Stradic, which is way better and the rod is a Shimano Maikuro 702 snapper rod. The 7ft rods give me a bit more casting distance. The overhead was a TLD 15 with 30lb braid and 40 lb fluoro leader, and the rod is a 6ft Ugly Stik- 6-8kg.

You know, a small light weight planning hull like a tinny has a better chance at a safe inbound crossing than a larger displacement hull. The reason is that its speed is not limited to hull speed, so it can go fast enough that the swell cannot catch up to it. What brings an inbound boat undone is the steep or breaking swell catching up to the boat, surfing it into a broach & rolling it over. If you are in a planning hull, you have the speed to follow at close & constant distance just behind a swell crest. If the crest behind is smaller than the one in front you are safe because the smaller wave is slower & will not overtake the crest in front. If the situation is reversed, you are in trouble because the larger faster swell behind will catch up with the smaller swell in front, converging into one gigantic breaker right on top of you.
