Movement in the last iterations of CoD has been pushed by streamers for streamers, Activision's pandering to them and the disconnection between the streamer world (cheating, whitelists, corruption, etc etc) and the rest of the community have been the final nails on the CoD coffin.

Unfortunately we’re highly unlikely to get the COD we want back. The most recent announcement was met with the highest preorders on Steam ever. The game is still wildly popular despite all the BS we dislike. People won’t stop feeding into the monster that’s been created and as a result it has no incentive to change. People want their gun and character skins, people buy the battle passes, people feed into it and reward COD’s decisions so they’ll keep adding more monetization and more custom options for players. It’s only going to get worse. What might change things is a competitor to COD, but the best days are behind us.
