I actually worked developing this station. We provided the telecoms and communication uplinks for the channel. It was the first of its kind really. Tomorrow's world showed a preview of it on BBC1, and volume of calls broke telephone switches for a few minutes

I always remember the awesome intro music for this show, probably one of the reasons I got into stuff like the Prodigy and Chemical Brothers

There were four Hosts between 1981 and 2022 Vernon here Dave Spikey in 2006 And Alan carr in 2022 but it can’t beat the Orignal host Jim Bowen as the old saying goes they don’t make ‘em like they used too but fair enough they got Tony green So ain’t all that bad

I remember visiting the studios on an Open day in the 80's - the Studios used to be located on the church street flyover bridge in Luton.

I had a C60 Cassette Tape of Chiltern Radio Test Transmissions which from memory a couple of songs was Simon & Garfukel "the Boxer" then Joan Armatrading " I'm lucky I walk under ladders" then Phil Fothergill introducing his show and Paul McKenna telling people about his show coming - I wish I could find that tape now but I think it was thrown out years ago

Used to listen to SuperGold on analogue satellite back in the day and I could hear Galaxy 101 in Devon! Was it the legendary Howard Hughes doing his best American Hot FM voice on some of these?

The early Chiltern jingles were produced by the now defunct AlphaSound company. These jingles were also used for Sunshine 101 Radio in Dublin, Ireland.

From the late 1980s era when, after fairly suddenly dropping the various pre-programme regional idents from New Year's Day 1988, at least four of the ITV franchisees - Central, Scottish and Yorkshire, as well as Anglia here - variously introduced animated/jingle end programme idents for a year or so until the semi-national revamp from Autumn 1989.

Did you steal my video and use the shortenend version of the start up music? If so, please don't pass it off as your own work. It took me some time to recreate the caption board. To pass it off as your own work is rather rude. You could at least entitle the video as a recreation. It's not a good move to annoy other content creators.

What a mind blast. I always had a memory of the Axe game at the end but could never remember where it originated from. Loved this show.

Loved this growing up as a teen, after TNG!

I remember when Sci-Fi first launched, they still followed the absurd US practice of having a commercial break just after the opening titles, and just before the end credits. Many viewers complained, and it was soon changed to a single commercial break in the middle - like most other UK channels.
