USAF BMT December 1970. Seems like yesterday and forever ago. 72 now, couldn't do this course to save my life. He was right though about the 3 memories.

Actually, believe it or not, the Air Force Obstacle course is the longest out of all branches.

Wow. not like 69-70. No O.D. green fatigues, no wax coated then skinned up heavy black combat boots, no fatigue caps, no nasty brown water, no crawling under wire with the loud booms, climbing ropes, no red faced smokey hat TI's screaming "you better hurry airman". But they are still getting the job done and learned from the 'Confidence Course.' Sill Air Force Proud after all these years.

I did my Air Force BMT in 1962. I do remember the obstacle course. It was no big deal. I think today's recruits have a more challenging course than we did. I have very fond memories of my time in the USAF. I hope the same for these young people.

This course is nothing like the one I want through in 1980. They took the swing across the pond out, and the final pond was not monkey bars.. it was a long big rope.. It was a blast. I guess they made it harder, because of the other Branches..

I was there in April 1970. The then "Confidence Course" was different. We crawled under wire while Claymore's were going off in pits to the side. We had towers to climb with very thick ropes, a lot of vaulting, but the water obstacles were mostly the same. The horizontal ladder over water was the last obstacle. The last one would be difficult when you were already tired. Those were the days!

I remember going through this about 45 years ago.I had fun going under the barbed wire obstacles; until the blank cartridge rounds from a gun started sending rounds above us and the simulated mines going off with a Pop or muffled boom 💥! Doing all that with my DI screaming through a bullhorn, " Get that fat ass of yours down ; keep your head down, and move -it, move-it ! Hey you, in the front, move that ass now ! The most fun was rappeling down the wall, which had wooden boards embedded in rock, and we had to swing from side to side going down. Of course we had a DI on the top of the wall rappelling course and one at the bottom screaming 😱 at us, " You secure your safety belt to your line, begin and follow the others and don't look down , and move your ass quickly ! There's 10 more behind you, and you got one minute to finish. Now, haul ass Trainee ! " Afterwards, we were introduced to " C-Rations or K-Rations " , which was the worst food to eat 🤔 . We all double-timed running to the barracks and took turns in the latrine ; as the rations made us all sick 😫. Nobody criticized the mess hall food after the rations we had to eat in the field ! I got a fruitcake baked in 1930 ? It was black and hard as a rock ; I couldn't break it, chip it, or bite into it at all ! Would've made a great paperweight though, a doorstop, a hockey puck, or in case of emergency 🤔 as a deadly weapon ! Just needed some skivvies to fashion a slingshot with and that cake 🎂 could kill small game or a human being with it ! LOL 😆, now !

These Air Force Army & Marine videos aren’t inclusive like the Navy’s where they have them doing these shirtless or soaking wet to show off their bodies. Come on get with the times, don’t discriminate, and give us what we want! If you aren’t gonna put on a wet T-shirt contest at least make these boys take off their shirts! Y’all wonder why gays stick with the Navy…🙄

The obstacle course was closed for maintenance and repairs when I went to basic training in July and Aug 1976 . I was really looking forward to running that course back then.
