Hey, thanks for your message 😊 The suspension in particular was a real saga! Ariel were very good at shipping parts to us from the UK when things broke, but unfortunately we couldn’t find anyone to rebuild the dampers. We had to persevere for the majority of the trip on the failed Öhlins. Gravel tracks at speed were spine-crunching! 😂

I was told by the service manager at Ariel that the Öhlins damper is a competition unit designed to be rebuilt after each race. He didn’t tell me this until after we’d shipped the car and encountered problems, unfortunately! Ours failed after about 300 miles of gravel. If I were to do the same kind of extended, non-metalled road trip again, I’d be giving the Fox shocks a try. Or learning how to rebuild dampers myself! 😂

The rear mud guard brackets are a weak point and don’t last very long on anything other than smooth tarmac. Unfortunately without them stones are thrown up in all directions, including into the cabin (which is how the windscreen was damaged on the inside)!

Oh, and the vin plate has one digit that doesn’t match the registration document, just an error that must have happened when first registered. The discrepancy was picked up by Colombian customs in Cartagena, but nobody else on the trip noticed, thankfully. It did make ALL border crossings a bit twitchy though! 😬😂

Hey, thanks for your message. It’s funny, but a few weeks after the whale trip we had travelled south to Mancora in Peru. By chance we saw whales jumping and slapping their tales from the beach! So much more special to have seen it just by chance 🐳 😊

Hey buddy! Frustratingly Nomad is still in Southampton 🤷🏻‍♂️ The Phoenix Leader, our shipping vessel, is now only a few hours out, so if they get loaded up fast the revised ETA into Cartagena should be around 7-Aug 🤞
