Hi Tony, love the videos. The ruddies i got off you a while ago are breeding well - i have some beautiful pied babies this season. Where do you get your hail netting from?
@bonesbirds94212 ай бұрын
Awesome mate. The netting came from Netpro in Stanthorpe 10mm quad hail netting, you need.

2:39 how do these nests work ? Like, you put a pile of twigs and strings and they make a home out of it ?
@bonesbirds94213 ай бұрын
Yes,so i just put in branches not too thick. Leaving spaces to give room for the birds to nest. I just put nesting material on the ground and then the birds build their own nests. Cheers

Thank you very much. For finch outdoor aviaries I'd say clumping types of grasses with seeding heads,small bushy shrubs. Plants like that. Just do your homework and make sure that they are not poisonous to your bird's. Cheers Tony from Bones Birds

Smart travel cage's. we can't get the waybills in Britain anymore as there are probably only 1or 2 breeders who hang on to any chicks. Just watched you're aviary video, that's magnificent, what do you line the floor with. New subscriber 😃🏴
@bonesbirds94217 ай бұрын
Thank you very much. That's a real shame the waxbills aren't available any more. We have lost a fair few of exotic species over the years, but Australia does still have good numbers of a lot of species. I myself have bred probably around 60 strawberry finches and 80 orange breasts just this season. And lots of tri coloured parrot finches, red faced parrot finches and many other's, maybe around 400 young this year. I put river sand on the bottom of my aviaries. Underneath that is drainage rock and a weed matt covers the rock before the sand goes down. Cheers Tone from Bones Birds 🐦
@MusicDoctor777 ай бұрын
Excellent. Please to hear of your waxbill success. Don't end up like Britain. My first goldbreast pair cost me £10 in 2000, after the import ban they went up to £120. Now we can't get them. Great floor covering. we use child's play pit sand. Britain imposed an important ban on all wild birds in October 2005 and a ban on all captive bred bird's from non EU countries. Though I've never seen a any wild importants. I acknowledge the Australian ban was 1960 🏴👍
@bonesbirds94217 ай бұрын
I new the ban was way back in Australia wasn't sure of the year. That was way before i was born😂 we have a lot of breeders still working with the exotics. But in years to come i think we will lose more and more. The younger generations aren't too many of them interested in birds. So i guess eventually they will be gone. Very sad mate.

@bonesbirds94217 ай бұрын
Sorry i haven't replied, have been so busy i still haven't set up any different. I'm in a tropical climate and my birds breed off and on all year round. The orange breasts and strawberries breed in the cooler months and now it is summer they have stopped. But most others have a few rounds and then stop for a while then start up again. There would have been somewhere around 400 chick's this year so far. Cheers Tone from Bones Birds 🐦

Where do you get the flies from, what do the flies lay their eggs in, how do you get the baby maggots out of the flybox without opening the door, how and what age do you move the maggots to the next box, what is the medium the maggots are in.. is sugar water all you feed the flies etc
