Old video, I know, but I'm DESPERATE. Your videos have helped me immensely in restoring a 20 yr old Bloomer horse trailer. My main job is painting them but i had to remove vinyl graphics on the aluminum and polish it. It's working well but the 20yr old graphics on the stainless nose is a nightmare. The vinyl has uv'd away but i haven't been able to remove the residue. HELP. I've sanded 400-¹000, paint thinner, rubber eraser, and it STILL WON'T GO AWAY. Any suggestions?

Hi Evan, I am an absolute newb with polishing. I am not planning to start a biz, Im retired and just want to polish my alum diamond plate toolboxes on my truck. These boxes are old, I bought them used. Watching many of your vids, you would not have fooled with these, they are in bad shape. That being said, I have a 25+ years old Millwaukee variable 6k sander that I am using...but it just went up in smoke. I bought a Makita 9227c and I will probably be getting a 6K Makita also. For the 9227c, the center plates for the hubless buffs, the bottom plate is about 1/16" from touching the machines case. Do you use a plate to hold the plates off of the machine? Great vids, Thanks.

Whats a good grit to finish sand an aluminum frame prior to clearing? Its already perfect rather blemish free except for leftover residue from an acidic paint striper. It left behind some whitish silver staining but the 3M scotch brite pads aren't quite aggressive enough to get the surface clean to raw clean aluminum surface. Unless I scrub over a place for 30 minutes, scrubbing the hell out of it. I gather hitting it with a 600 wet sand will have it looking nice before two coats of matte clear???? Thats a question because Im a touch unsure and get 1 crack at destroying a pretty high end aluminum frame lol I want to avoid sandpaper scratches showing up and have it relatively smooth finished.

What style buffer pad is this? I'm a Maritime Captain and our diamond deck plates are in serious need of TLC. We have wool polishing bonnets but they don't seem tough enough for the job we have ahead.
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing14 күн бұрын
We use airway pads from goshineon.com. If your diamond plate is really rough start with the red buff and brown rouge. Then hit it with your wool bonnet with some time2shine aluminum polish. Then hit it with the orange buff and brown rouge. Then your wool bonnet and t2s aluminum polish again. Repeat the heavy steps as many times as necessary. Then switch to a white buff with green rouge to finish it up when it has a great shine.

Hey Evan so im barley starting my own polishing business I live in California prices here are very high right now but besides that I wanted to ask since im starting my own polishing business now I have everything I need I have the big 6000 rpm makita grinder the 9inch buffs orange and yellow with green and brown rouge and I have my da sander as well im barley 15 years old starting this I have done a couple of trucks now maybe 3 I wanted to ask if my pricing is OK for beginning im charging $25 a rim and I charge $15 extra for sanding if you can please respond that would mean everything to me i have been learning everything from you, you have amazing videos with describing everything in good detail and I learned all my tips techniques and tricks from you
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing14 күн бұрын
Beginner pricing and advanced user pricing shouldn't be the same. Just because you are learning doesn't mean the value of what you are doing is less. If you charge less now it will be far harder to charge more later. Customers will get used to the cheap pricing and expect that all the time and now want to use you later when the pricing is higher. I think your pricing is cheap for California. But if you are happy with the amount of money you are making for the amount of time you put in then you are good. You are the one that matters.

@EvanStegerMetalPolishing14 күн бұрын
Refrigerators and other appliances are really thin stainless and they are glued to a shell. If you get them too hot the panel warps and it will forever be wavy. I recommend only using a random orbit sander on thin glued stainless like that and polishing at slow speed.

Any ideas for a black pleather seat stained with grey mud?
@EvanStegerMetalPolishing14 күн бұрын
9 times out of 10 you have to have the pleather re-dyed to get rid of the stain. Especially mud. It likely bleached the black. Hope this helps.
