This was when the Oaks decided to go more contemporary. They fired William Lee Golden and replaced him with a younger Steve Sanders. This is the lineup I grew up with so I have an appreciation for it. I also realize the group was at its best with WLG in it but this was a fun era too.

Thank you for sharing this. If you have anything more from when Steve Sanders sang with the other three guys, please get it up here when you can. He's my favorite of the group. God bless you always!!! Holly in east TN (a girl who forever misses him)

It's kind of profound to me. I saw him once and was just so drawn to him after that. If I'm right, that was the last show before his diagnosis. I was rooting so hard for him, needing to see him again, convinced the world needed more of him. I can't put my finger on what it was, his singing surely was amazing, playing too, but there was something so much more than that. Maybe just so clearly authentic. We sure lost a good one, well before his time. RIP James. May the four winds blow you safely home.

I saw this show right after a bad break up I was with my dad, he hugged me the whole song. I got a tattoo for this song. I can’t even describe how special and life changing this night was. beautiful.

totally agree; i was about 5th row on the floor. music moves me but never to tears. i had tears streaming all through this song.....couldn't believe it. james single handedly sent out so much love & energy during this....everyone was on the same wave. i was aware james was going through cancer before seeing this show and, of course, was hoping to see him again. he delivered this like there was nothing negative going on in his or anyone elses world. a true angel of a human.

Damn that electric fiddle go crazy! The only nitpick I have is that when people cover dead songs, the singers sing very “sterile” if that makes sense. (No hate meant, just something I notice)

@@Fatty_MargoThe Dead was pretty sweet. I was 18 & had just graduated high school right before their 2009 spring tour with Warren Haynes. I was lucky enough to see most of their shows that year using money I got from family & friends for graduation. Rothbury Festival was one of the best weekends in my entire life. In fact, they’re the reason I voted for Obama, after seeing them play two shows for him in 2008. I don’t know if that was necessarily a good thing, but it is what it is. They’re also the reason I got a COVID shot, because that was the only way you could get into Dead & Company shows in the beginning of their 2021 summer tour, then that changed right before it started. Basically, the Grateful Dead has ruined my life, but I’m not mad about it & I let it happen.
