Although I missed my PB in this marathon with five minutes, it was still an epic day with a great crowd, passionate runners and best possible weather (with which we were really lucky btw). 😀

Some very selective cutaways to the static camera whenever the lead group reaches a hill... Marathon organisers going to extra lengths to maintain their "fast and flat" reputation? 🤔😅

Definitely a lot more runners around the 2:45 - 3:00 mark than there were a few years ago 🤔

32,000 started that race, but only 22,294 people finished. So if you made it across the line, WE DID IT! Great race, great support, great atmosphere, plus the hill in Altrincham wasn't anywhere near as bad as people make out! To run my first marathon in my home city, in front of my family, and to be so vocally supported by thousands of people the whole way round... good grief... One of the best days of my life, for sure.

I’ve run six times Barcelona Marathon and Sunday was the first time in Manchester. I must same that the atmosphere along the whole course was by far much better in Manchester. Thank you to all the crowd who cheered all runners.

Course and support was fantastic unfortunately it was let down by the crowd management at the finish, it was awful, I’d like to say I’d be back for it again but I very much doubt it. Medal is awesome though 🫶🏻

Yeah I heard the same from a relative. The lack of foil blankets and any kind of obtainable snacks or drinks at the finish too (supposedly sis had a stand?) This meant a lot were looking very worse for wear after they'd finished (she described it as like the walking dead) It seems the marathon has grown considerably since 2019 but it suggests the infrastructure hasn't adapted to that growth. I got the impression listening to the guy on the mic who was calling out names as people finished that it's being fed by egos - he seemed a little bit too keen on bragging about the statistic of how big the marathon is relative to other marathons in the UK and EU and trying to create some asinine rivalry with London Marathon which he half-jokingly referred to as 'the overflow marathon for this one' - but that will go pear shaped if they don't manage the numbers and get enough resources to cater to them. The race itself she enjoyed doing and eventually she found her way to get something to eat and warm.

@@michael1 it was so congested after I got my medal I couldn’t see anything that may have been on offer, crowds at a stand still, bottle neck to exit the cricket ground, no food or water, it was quite dangerous I thought, I felt so unwell.

That part was ridiculous. We were fenced in and made to stand for over 5 minutes watching shoppers crossing in front of us. We'd just been running for four hours and now made to stand still, getting cold and no indication for when we might be able to escape. Some people started shouting "let us out!". My brother, who finished twenty minutes earlier, had the same experience. They've got to fix that next year. It was scary. Everything else about the day was great.
@johnphillips34753 ай бұрын
@@chesshead I'm not sure if it was the same as for me, but a lot of them weren't shoppers, they were finishers who had gone through the event village and been fed out of an exit that then crossed the route from the finish line into the village. I have absolutely no idea why we were sent this route, the crossover was pretty chaotic. I don't want to sound too negative though - other than that, I loved every minute of the race

I just want to thank to one of the volunteers, I don't know her name but I hope she will see this message. You're the reason why I finished the marathon! Halfway through, I was ready to drop off due to excruciating cramps and painful ligaments. She encouraged me to walk a bit more and see how I feel and re-think my decision. I walked and ran and walked again until the finish line. I'm so glad that she did not give me the easy way out and I've finished it in 4:45. Also, the crowd was 🔥🔥🔥 I've absolutely loved the atmosphere and the support!!! Will definitely come back!
