Hey great video! I happened to come across this video and was very interested through the beginning while you were going over the tools. I don't agree with his assessment of RMS. It's really used to eliminate the negative components of the wave form so you can see the energy as a positive scalar value. When you square a negative it becomes positive, so that when you apply the square root you have the scalar magnitude.

I would say probably not. It is a teaching aid. Lots of good stuff online and thru mobius institute. Also look at getting the ipt rotating equipment handbook.

outer race fault: energy dissipates through the bearing housing leading to attenuation at higher frequencies inner race fault: energy is more efficiently transmitted and potentially amplified through the rotating components leading to increase harmonic amplitudes at higher frequencies.

High frequency enveloping is one of the best tools for early bearing fault detection. It’s probably best to point out that these subsurface faults will typically show in acceleration before progressing to Velocity in the FFT.

The chromium content in this heat-treatable steel provides hardness penetration, whereas the added molybdenum provides uniform hardness and strength. The added manganese lends itself to increase strength and hardenability. 4140 steel may be used for both low and high temperature applications and with the relevant heat treatment can be used in sour gas environments as well. 4140 / 4142 belongs to the group of high grade structural steels. To harden 4140 the material should be heated slowly and uniformly to 1508-1580°F (820-860°C) followed by water or oil quenching, depending on the size and complexity of the work pieces. After hardening the material can achieve a working hardness between 262 and 456 BHN (27 - 48 HRC). or this way ; How do you harden 4140 steel? Hardening & Quenching Heat in your furnace to 1550 - 1600°F. Hold for at least 30 minutes per inch of thickness. Remove from the furnace and quench the workpiece immediately in mineral oil. When the workpiece has cooled to 150°F, proceed to tempering.

@@Stubbornnut ok starting at (~) 31:43 the slides say pk vue at top of screen & is referenced as such, but Velocity/in/sec is being used for data, which is incorrect set up. Always Acceleration/gs. Yes, it's a great idea to compare standard spectrum taken with velocity/ips or even displacement/mils to Pk vue or HFD for early detection, pk vues main purpose & its sensitivity/ contrasts. It may have been some plots mistakenly placed in slide show. Hard to keep track, I instructed as well.

This was very useful to see a manual wheel truing and dressing. The device is genius. Small and effective. Many thanks for a great demo. I can find the diamond dressing stick on Amazon easily, however, I cannot find the Truing tool you are using. Did you machine this yourself? I can find the Diamond Stick/Pencil part with the pointy diamond on top, but not the holder. Looks like a custom made holder. I'd love to get this holder. Any tips on where you bought it? fyi - 7:41 - PEDESTAL, not PEDISTAL.
