A friend of my Grandfather's was a career navy man, had already been in 5 years when WW2 started. He was on a destroyer in the gulf of Mexico in 1940, they were doing a training exercise with a US Navy S-boat, one of our subs. The exercise was to do find him and track the S-boat with sonar, then do a mock depth charge run. Well, his ship was tracking this sub, kept tracking it but it kept moving out of the training area, so the destroyer he was on kept with it. About an hour later, the Captain of the S-boat radioed the destroyer and was wondering where they were and why they hadn't commenced the exercise. It seems the destroyer my Grandfather's friend was on was tracking a German U-boat doing their recon runs and was headed back out to see. He said the worst part was, they had no real depth charges on board, had the U-boat decided to try and sink them, there wasn't much they could have done about it.

I can understand how some servicemen say they missed the war because of the relationships forged in situations like these. Being part of a whole ship crew that acts as a unit… it must be an intense wonderful feeling of kinship. It gives me goosebumps as the ship relays the orders of the skipper in unison without hesitation. Remarkable

One bit that was unbelievable was the knife/extendible baton fight, *Andy has 6000 years of combat experience,* all but the past few hundred years have been with meele weapons, and a soldier was a challenge for her? The best mortal knife fighting martial arts expert in the world ("10th dan in knife-jitsu") would be roadkill to her. She could have stabbed his weapon hand or cut off some of his fingers as he was trying to attack her, and in the same smooth motion finished him off with a cut to the throat or a stab in an eye or another vital spot that's a quick kill. Any hand to hand going for more than a few seconds doesn’t make sense. You attack one of them, and they avoid it cleanly then hit you perfectly with a blow you never even saw coming. Assuming they don't beat you to it and you're taken out before you even get off your punch or kick attempt. And trying to grapple with one would not be advisable either.

I think this movie is excellent, have watched it several times, gripping and suspenseful
