Boll and Samsonov remained relevant at least in Europe because there hasn't been much talent produced after the USSR collapsed. Waldner is a different case. The Chinese used to retire when their game failed against foreign players that was the case with Liu Guoliang,Kong Longhui etc. After the 2008 Olympics the Chinese tend to invest a lot more to their players mostly because the number of players has been reduced. Used to be 11 players in the 80's now it's only 5.

The reason. 1. They were masters from early age. 2. They have the most experience, that is something that comes with age and CAN NOT be learned or trained. 3. Due to experience also tactics are extremely fledged out and effective.

It is the biggest backhand away from table but it’s not as effective in today’s modern game where the BH flick and counter closer to the table is more important. Krenga’s backhand was more aesthetically pleasing and more powerful, but not necessarily the best

@@dickn.ormous1064 I'm comparing his backhand to current modern backhands with the ball change and also Ma Long is the GOAT now. I think Kreanga's play style was much more suited to the old ball (and 2003 was still well before these changes and new trends). I could be wrong however, and if Kreanga where in his prime today I'm sure he would still do very well

Other factors for the relative short professional life spans of the Chinese players is .. 1: The immense pressure. 2: Early burn out due to their tough training regime. 3: The Chinese produce so many exceptionally talented young players that the competition is really tough for the top players to be at the top of their game for as long as the Europeans.

They all grew up with smaller balls that reward feeling and tempo and spinn changes.. the Chinese forced a bigger ball on tour because they didn’t have feeling.. we need to go back to smaller balls to get a more diverse range of playing styles

The answer is china have so many good player. When Wang Li Win, Ma Lin Reach 30 years , there are so many young player can beat them like ma long, Zhang jike, xu xin. Europe player? Who young player can beat Samsonov, Timo boll when they reach 30? Only Ovtcharov can match them, but he is not consistent. Many European young player still under boll and Ovtcharov in skill

I think the major reason has nothing to do with techniques. The real reason is competition of table tennis players in China is way more cruel than their lucky European peers. The reason that Chinese table tennis players retire early is not because that they are no longer top of the world, it’s because they are not competitive enough in the China national table tennis team to represent the country.

So at the moment my strenght is power and speed too, and also good footwork. When I‘m in the age of 40-50 I‘ll change to the european style of course. :)

All what is said is true. But add to that culture. Basically, most European pros stop the hard training by the age of 30. But still play for their club. Many don't mind dropping a couple of divisions and even losing matches. They simply enjoy themselves. Klampar was still a regular club player. Samsonov recently retired from international play but will continue playing for his club. There are several other examples. In fact there are several formerly top Chinese CNT players in Europe still playing and enjoying themselves.
