I wouldn’t be surprised. The families of the Beatles as a whole have been respectful to the legacy but it seems like some have an easier time capitalizing on it.

In a 2022 article in the The New Yorker, an opposite description of the one given in the vid of John's reaction to hearing Stu was dead from Astrid Kirchherr, quoted as saying he started laughing and crying at the same time, and sat shaking and rocking, kind of lost in hysterics. And Pete Best had John “Shattered … weeping like a child”. It's easily possible of course that all the accounts are accurate, different witnesses observing at different times during the minutes and hours after John got the shocking news. I well recall Yoko said she felt as if she knew Stu because John talked about him so often, but I don't recall the source for that :( it's so hard to keep track of the sources. On Sutcliffe there's the film Backbeat, just written up in the June 2024 NME, and his sister Pauline's 2002 book, The Beatles' Shadow: Stuart Sutcliffe & His Lonely Hearts Club. That's currently in my read pile, but I'm aware of Pauline's claims in the book: that John and Stu were lovers, and John contributed to Stu's fatal brain bleed because he had struck him in the head some months before. Both Yoko Ono and Fred Seaman are also sources that have said John told them he had struck Stu and suffered tremendous guilt that he may have contributed to his death. Honestly it's dubious, as Stuart was ill with headaches and psych symptoms for almost a year it seems pretty clear Stu’s fatal condition was caused by disease process and not injury. But I don't doubt the violence any more than I doubt the young Beatles’ weeks long benders on booze and amphetamines. They were rough young men, playing at rough bars, and got in plenty of fights. John was infamous for it for several years after Julia’s death. Hell, Paul and Stu rumbled on stage once. I suspect the really important take away is the effect on John's psychology: the pain of carrying the guilt of that possibility. Derek Taylor has also spoken about John telling him about a sexual encounter he had with Stu, so while it's not a list a dozen people long who've made statements of their knowledge of the love affair like there is with Epstein, Pauline is not the only source on John and Stuart being lovers. Stu's artwork is interesting, he’s worth a deeper look via Google. He gives a very modern impression of openness about his fluidity, writing matter of factly of appealing to both the gay clientele and the women who frequented the Hamburg bar The Beatles were playing at in a letter to Pauline, saying: “I’ve become very popular both with girls and homosexuals, who tell me I’m the sweetest, most beautiful boy. Imagine it, me, the one who has such a complex because I was small and thought I was ugly… It appears that people refer to me as the James Dean of Hamburg… I’m quite flattered.” And after he got together with Astrid Kirchner, Stu started habitually wearing her clothing. I've not seen pictures of him in dresses, but in trousers and blouses obviously made for women looking somewhere between feminine and androgynous. Perhaps if he had lived the Beatles would have brought in glam bands a decade early :)

It’s interesting learning about the other regular folks in Paul’s life and speculate about their influence on him. Had Jim’s life not been happy in his later years, would Paul been as inspired to write positive message songs like Good Day Sunshine? ✌️🫶

I really did enjoy this factual video! I applaud you on the details regarding Johns life with women especially Yoko. I didn't know she could be such an intrusive problem. It also shows that the Beatles achieved their greatness through lots of hours and hard work. This is evident in the nite club schedues they endured. Great presentation 👍

Aside from being a survivor, Paul is so very lucky to be able to continue into his 80s to perform and tour as a musician. I haven't been so lucky myself as a lifelong professional musician; I developed severe health problems with chronic pain when I was just in my late 30s, and after various forays into different kinds of projects I ultimately had to 'hang up my guns' and retire due to disability. I had a good 2 1/2 decades of making my living from playing music, and I understand first-hand what Paul means when he talks about how magical it is. And that magic is precisely what I miss the most: not being able to get out and share that magic with others. It is a form of service, and most people, especially the very doctors and other medical professionals who are tasked with helping find it very difficult to understand exactly what it is that I have lost; it's not just 'losing your job'; it's losing your very reason for existing. Anyway, I'm truly glad that Paul is still able to experience that joy well into his 80s. (John was only 40 when he was killed!) One of the only things that keeps me going personally these days is the hope that maybe I'll be able to get back to it someday before I go... Thanks for another good episode, keep up the good work! Coincidentally, lately I have been getting a bit of a surge of new subscribers to my own channel, which has a bit of personal music content, but is mostly concerned with WWII history, specifically a US army combat veteran from NYC who I befriended back in the late 1990s; and eventually upon whom I did a big website and also extensive video interviews with him about his service time, and also because during the war he carried a personal camera on him and had made almost 500 photos which he took between 1941-45, when he served, and which photos (negatives) had sat forgotten in his drawer for over 50 years, right up until the time I befriended him and got him talking about his wartime experiences. It's interesting in a way too, because as we know the Beatles were all born during the WWII war years, when England was undergoing the "Blitzkrieg" bombing war that almost totally destroyed their society. So those lads were very much affected by the war years, with them growing up in England of the late 40s and 50s... I find it so ironic that their professional careers began more or less in Hamburg, Germany, and that most of their audiences at that time were likely combatants in one way or another for the enemy... Life sure is strange.

Wait doesn't Paul know black lives matter are advocating against black people black lives matter has done nothing but to essentially put African-Americans in this constant state of victimhood don't get me wrong I love Paul but he just can't choose the right movements to support. I am black lives matter defended a racist homophobic bigot named jussie Smollett I don't know how anyone would be dumb enough to support black lives matter after that. I'm sorry when your movement literally advocates for racist homophobic bigots and tell a particular race of human beings to commit violent terrorist attacks you're not a advocacy group you're a terrorist organization plain and simple Peta prove their own track record how little they actually care about animal rights David literally celebrate the murder of healthy animals they steal healthy animals from their owners and they're actually ableist against the blind

Wonderful little Paul bio, clearly each of the four made up the whole of what we love about the Fabs but Paul is just a little bit more of a Beatle in a sense when directly compared with the others. I really appreciate how you put Beatles authors and their material into correct perspective. I feel like you get it right more often than most people who try to do this. I really enjoy being exposed to the jist of these different books, with their pros and cons (as well as their biases) clearly on display, and as part of the main conversation about them, while still hearing them out. Cheers!
