When I mixed Ph up/down in directly after adjusting nutes, a white cloud would form in the solution, which i did not pay attention to. Later, I got calcium deficiencies because the Ph concentrate was taking the calcium out of suspension in the fertilizer and it became unavailable to the plant (hence the white cloud). Best practice imho is to A) Dilute the PH Up/Down before adding it to the solution or B) calculate how much Ph up/down you use and then add it before everything else (including silicon, cal mag). TPS (what i use for fertilizer) suggests buffering RO water with 15% tap water, but I've never tried that because im not trying to fix whats not broken. Just my 2 cents.

Great guide! I'm just looking to get started with hydroponics myself and found this quite useful. Looks like your website is having some issues right now and cannot be connected to, unfortunately. Was eager to check out the getting started guide you mentioned. Thought you should know it appears to be down!

For the problem with wrong calibration values... 👇 Just click again one or two times on the "CAL" button after pressing it for 3-5 seconds. After choosing the one you need it will flash and do the calibration process. And always wait for 30 seconds to let the value being set in the solutions and then calibrate in this order: pH 4.00, then pH 9.18 and then pH 6.86. Repeat it several times until they show always (almost) the correct values in the solutions...

Where is the calculator located... what url or website?
More of a rdwc (recirculating deep water culture only not deep lol) ebb n flow will flood until u hit your drain if it took 10 seconds to fill and hit drain reduce 10 minutes to 20 seconds every 2 hours. Water fills up pushing stale o2 out and as it drains it pulls fresh o2 back into the rootzone. Now different mediums will need more frequent floods not longer ie the stone since it has 0 -1% capacity to retain and hold water. Where something such as coco coir or rockwool hold anywhere from low as 45% WC (water content % ) upwards of 85-93 WC% . Rockwool has a small % of material and the remaining is air . Medium type along with amount of time to flood play a huge part on frequency and duration.

New drinking game: take a drink or shot every time he says “bucket”! 😂😂 All jokes aside, I’m saving this video to make a couple of these next year. For a lot of us these items are pretty normal and can be found in our garages and sheds! I’m pretty stoked to give this a try.

I would think that some company would have made similar systems. Don't get me wrong, i respect the DIY aproach and i see the benefit of this system. I myself for several reasons just won't do this. So has anyone seen a brand that does this well?

I'm still a bit confused. I was never good with math , but it's telling me for my 15-gallon reservoir that I need 12 gallons of peroxide that is being needed from 6% to 5%.?
@dabzpaintball447815 күн бұрын
Can I already use premixed peroxide at 6%?

i just wonder with these type of systems, were you always have water in the bottom that can´t drain: dont you have a extreme salty/nutrianty bottm (sry 4 my english)? the salts/nutriants in the solution wont be able to escape, so i would have the fear that they gather all at the bottom, beeing to extreme for the plant
@nytimb24 күн бұрын
Your wicking cup has a taper to it so instead of tracing the top of it trace around the bottom and it will fit perfectly///// they make bung adapters = no struggling with split washers////or wrap some string around the split in the grommet and put both ends of the string through the bucket hole then press on the grommet on the inside of the bucket and pull on the string for a no hassle install

Put a small cork onto the end of a thin bamboo stick. Before adding water, drop it down the fill tube until it hits the bottom. Now mark a line on the cane at the top of the pipe. Put it to one side. Fill with water. You can put the float you built in from time to time and make sure the mark you made is still above the top of the pipe. I would refill if it`s closer than 1/4 inch.

Great video. You don’t need air stones for these systems. The water returning back splashes and puts air back into the water.

Deja vu. I was making 5 gallon lava rock drip 35 years ago. Anything from tea pitchers to 16 oz glasses., can become Hydroponics. I did 10 years with those. Now I am doing living soil, fabric containers .learn how to water. Hands down easiest method. World class product if you get genetics, environment.

I have two questions. Why the aerator? I would think enough oxygen is introduced during the flow of water? Second is can plants be started from seed in the pearlite?

Why not use say Coke to lower pH? Baking soda to raise it? Vinegar to lower. It's not the space program people. No need to buy pH up and down $$$$. Simple stuff you already have at home.

Firehouse Sub Sandwich restaurants sell their 5 gallon pickle buckets with lids for $3 each (without pickles of course) as of 7 June 2024 in Northern Virginia. The money goes to firemen funds charity. They are VERY high quality food grade buckets that are cheaper than anything non-food grade from Lowes or Home Depot. The pickle smell goes away if you put the buckets open in the sun and as is won't bother plants.

I used cat liter buckets for my design. Best part is you don't need to use screws to hold the inner bucket up. When slipped together the space between the two is perfect. Instead of perlite I used brown scotchbrites with a dot of hot glue to hold the bits down. When setting water capacity, pour 1-2 gallons in the bottom bucket, use a magic marker to mark the water level, dump and the drill your drain tube.

Litter buckets truly are the best!
