I've a copy of Nikon 50mm f:1.2 AIS. I bought it brand new in 2016. This is the Nokon's best 50mm lens. Yes, it's a manual focus lens which I use with my Nikon D810 DSLR but I've Nikon FM2 film camera as well. Monirul Islam Dhaka, Bangladesh. 18 Jun 2024

I'd take a Nikon FM2 any day over the F3 these days. I don't need all that extra crap. Just need a camera that does everything manually and nothing more.

You’re not wrong on that. Old electronics turn into pricey repairs.

@@TylerGajewski Right, and I also just think the act of shooting film nowadays is usually not in some fast paced professional environment. Digital is for that. With a film camera, you really don't need all those auto features. Just take it slow and enjoy the manual process.

Your thoughts on the 35mm F2 would be interesting? For me, it's quite a "funky" lens with poppy color.

All well and good, but there are now serious roadblocks to using film. And I should know as I started in the 1960s and have been with Nikon ever since. Film cameras are great to use and Nikon lenses are plentiful but the downsides are these. 1. Film costs a lot of money to buy and get developed. 2. Places where you can get film developed are becoming rarer and they charge more than $1 a shot. 3. Unless you own a darkroom with $3k worth of equipment, you will scan your negatives. So you are back to digital output anyway. And a good scanner can cost $800. If you use a digital camera to scan, then the output is from that camera, not the original film. So whats the point?

For multiple exposures of overlapping subjects, it's best to set your EV to -1 (for 2 exposures), or -2 (for 3 exposures).

Very beautiful photos and video, thank you so much. I want to take my Nikon F3 to Kawaii with me and hope I can get beautiful photos like yours. I already subscribed your Chanel. Any suggestion about travel with film to get through Security and the airport?

Play it safe and always get your film hand checked even if it's under 800 ISO. You don't want to come back from your trip with x-rayed film. I travel with my film in a freezer bag. I keep all of my 135 film labeled in their plastic canisters. Some people will unwrap their 120 film, but I haven't had an issues with the wrappers on. I also will not load my cameras with film until I am through security.

I probably have more than 20 old MF Ai,Ais and none Ai Nikkor lenses. This one is one of my absolute favorite. Makes soft dreamy photos at f1.2 , perfect for Christmas snowy photos, then its super sharp, especially at F4. Lovely lens.

Hi, such a great video. thanks for sharing. I had some questions, which F3 is the best? also is the Waist-level viewfinder mode with magnifier is included with the camera or do I have to buy that little open-up door seperately?

I really enjoyed watching this review. Usually reviewers will take photos of boring things like their cat or a vase. You actually showed what it is to use it in the real world with beautiful, artistic (meaningful) pictures. Subscribed.

😢My workhorse for 20 years. Use it still today. However you are not loading the film right. And you shall never take off the wivfinder without replasing it with another. The shutter is made out of titanium, so it will last almoust forever. I have all lenses and eqipment to this kamera. and everything works fine. Bought it new in 1984 and have shot several hundreds of thousends photos with it.

Great pro workhorse (if that's what you need), but for manual focus excellence just get a Canon T90. Reliant on batteries (just like the F3) it has many more shooting and metering options and has the vast array of peerless colour-coded FD lenses at its disposal.

I recently acquired a mint condition Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 AI-S. From the moment I mounted it on my Nikkormat FT3 and looked through the viewfinder, it became my favorite lens. The larger barrel size feels better for larger hands. As noted in your video, the focus ring is stiffer, but that not only does not bother me, I prefer that tighter but still smooth operation. The view looking through the finder is tremendous. I am anxious to shoot some film and digital with it. Thanks for your post.

Back in the days when photography was enjoyable... it was the best camera ever. It has more than you need in a camera. The flash system sucks, but I used a Metz 45 connected to the PC socket

I bought my first Nikon, a used F with a prism finder, in 1967 and have never looked back. The F2 has long been a favorite and I have several, but the first time I held an F3, I was in love. I currently own three F3s: 2 with HP fnders and one with an action finder. All have MD4 motor drives. This is an excellent review of a fantastic camera! Oh, I still have and use that original F.

I am using a D850, and a F6. My principle lens is a Sigma 50mm F/1.4. I want to use it in manual focus, but let the camera figure out the F stops and shutter speed. Will the F3 HP, do that?
