How is it, all these years... I thought OU812 was just some nonsense number letter combination following 84 and 5150... or maybe the album's sku like 90125... I NEVER realized it was Oh You Ate One Too until it was spoken aloud and then alluded to here... 😓

Balance on D? What??? Hhahahhahahaa... This is insanity. Balance is one of the best records.

S Tier - 1st album, VH 2, Fair Warning.......... A Tier - 1984 ..............all the other Roth era albums can go in the B Tier............................all the other albums can go in the bin, especially Balance and VH 3

As always, I post my choices prior to watching just to see how things compare. S - Women and Children First, Van Halen A - Fair Warning, Van Halen II B - A Different Kind of Truth, Diver Down, 1984 C - For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, OU812, 5150 D - Van Halen III, Balance

I keep wondering when you're going to do one of these on Marillion. Seems perfect for the format: lots of albums, distinct eras with different lead singers/lyricists, still making albums to present, etc.
@progreport16 минут бұрын
It's on the list. Will happen.

Great episode, love how you all have different and strong opinions. This episode made me realize that I have honestly never dug into Van Halen deep cuts, other than I and 1984

The F album was a back to basics album with the return of producer Ted Templeman and the early Queen “No Synthesizers” rule. Best album from the Sammy era. Favorite track - Pleasure Dome which I credit Alex’s aggressive drumming. VH3 - Producer Mike Post, yes the TV composer, and the band lacked chemistry.
@carlpeterson8182Сағат бұрын
HA! I love how they call Sammy's stuff cheesy when VH in the Roth era was super cheese. They lived on cheese I love VH but they were always super cheesy. Hot for the Teacher is super cheese. The remakes were super cheese. A lot were great cheese but still. David Lee Roth was super cheese. That was his schtick. Lee's solo stuff is so funny. Almost unlistenable because of the cheese.
@KyleFagala42 минут бұрын
Ok. Maybe DLR is cheese (at times) but it has aged well. Sammy’s is more saccharine and too overly earnest at times. I dunno. Sometimes words don’t capture the meaning.

A lot of this is based on how much I love the deep cuts. VH3 is unlistenable. I have tried recently...can't do it. ADKOT just never grabbed me. S -> WACF -> FW -> VH A -> F-Album -> VH2 -> 1984 B -> 5150 -> OU812 C -> DD -> Balance D -> ADKOT F -> VH3

Piper was Pink Floyd in 1967. Comparing it to The Wall or Dark Side is going to do it a disservice. Saucer was an attempt to replicate that album without Syd. Let There Be More Light was Astronomy Domine. Set The Controls was Chapter 24 - take some oriental poetry and make it hippy/cosmic. Arnold Layne had a strange hobby, but Corporal Clegg had a wooden leg. The title track was Interstellar Overdrive but composed by architectural students rather than an art student. From there you had four people wandering what the hell to do next. Atom Heart Mother gave them an idea. Echoes improved on it. DSOTM was an album length extension of that. It was a hit. Roger wrote the lyrics - David and Rick had no desire to do so - and by extension decided what the album was about. This pattern was repeated for the next two albums. Then Roger decided to write all the music too. End of four piece Floyd....
Love this group and they are underrated releases! Nad's voice is an acquired taste, but the music is so strong, I got past it. Highly recommended.

Not sure who you are but if we had to ask people to leave the Morsefest venue it would have been for a good reason, like sound check or that other people needed to lock up and get home. Unfortunately the weather is beyond my control.
