Their high lift numbers are not that good, can get OEM heads ported to out flow these heads by plenty for a fraction of what these AFR heads cost. Just buy the AFR Mongoose 260 heads if want a great head that out flows most everything in its class and forget offshore made Enforcers.

Nobody can afford to buy AFR heads... PERIOD!
@popeye08919 күн бұрын
Their prices are comparable to other manufacturers such as Brodie, Frankenstein, TF…..if you want spectacular heads from any reputable company that stands behind their product, you have to pay from any company. Or you can buy some knockoffs from speedmaster or eBay and roll the dice on quality but then you might grenade your engine.
@kevins583319 күн бұрын
@@popeye089 I disagree, their average race heads might be comparable to others, but if you want their best CNC heads you're gonna pay through the roof... plenty of other top name heads that perform well for less than AFR... I run as cast Dart pro-1's on my NA 427 Camaro, It runs 9.60's @138. When I priced heads, AFR was considerably more...But nobody's telling you not to buy AFR... If you wanna spend more money on heads, have at it...

Best starting point I know of is application: what rpm range am I really going to use? Brutal honesty is the rule, and observing that powerbands have tradeoffs - no such thing as dead flat VE from 3k to 8k - and your torque curve will prove it.

i made a set of 283 power pack heads run low 11s and 7:20 in the 8th in a s10 with 1.72-1.50 valves i spent a lot of time on those ! nobody believed they had those teeny tiny stock valves i polished them by hand ! i just ported a set of 906 big block heads for a 383 those went 6:60 in 8th 10:80 in the quarter in a 3200lb car not sure what the horsepower is but id say i probably did something right .

I wonder if Steve was involved with the first Brownfield heads. I had some of the very first casting. When I ran them on my 287 SBC Gasser engine. The first time out, the head bolts were going down in the castings and the valve seats were going up. So I called Brownfield they wanted them back, ok, I sent them back, they welded them up and CHARGED me to fix them. When I got them back I burnell hardness tested them , they were dead soft. After proving to them how BAD they were they sent me a new set. I SOLD them and kept running my Iron turbo heads, that flowed as well as the brownfield head.

This video does not even address valve train geometry. At all. The axis of the rocker needs to be 90° to the valve stem at half lift. On a pedestal rocker or shaft, that's done by shimming the rockers fulcrum height relative to the head. THEN you can select the proper length pushrod. Or you can just bolt crap together. Either way 😆.

I have had a little experience around Brownfield heads as well as Hamburg Mopar heads. And a couple of locally cast heads here in Oz. Not very watertight and inconsistent in brinnel. A bit like some China heads today! I saw VobbleVagen Scat stuff,, average. But on recomendations of others I am using their premium off the shelf crank and rods. I know there is better but my budget and power levels do not warrant spending more. I am still talking near 600 347 Ford.

This video is a mess! Didn't anyone from the AFR tech department double check this? The basic idea is solid, but with a bolt down non adjustable rocker all you are doing is adjusting lifter preload. You have to raise or lower the fulcrum (middle) point along with push rod length to make the pattern change like she was hoping. Most adjustable rocker systems use the stud and polylocks to do this, but I have seen a shim system for certain bolt down rockers like a 5.0 or Vw bug that can be used to raise the fulcrum.

hi U could post recommended MCSA or the formula on the website with a waiver saying application must be checked with cust service . Now I am overseas and on a 6400-6500 redline for a 400cuin SBC AFR recommended a 195 1.9 mcsa by phone . What an absolute croc 220cc 2.2 MCSA 3200 stall 3.6 gear 4bbl 1 7/8 primaries these will make any 400 cu breath and use a larger head 400 stock 5800rpm =195 ,,, 400 modified 6500rpm =220 ,,,,,400 12.5 to 1 .CR 7000rpm =227 head To rectify this if I had directly purchased they would have swapped them . BuT I purchased thru an agent [this service is not available because my purchase was done this way ]
