Holy smokes so many cool ideas. I'm definitely getting a bit overwhelmed in this lesson though. When you were learning jazz at this stage, how did you begin to understand different chords' roles in a given phrase/progression?

The slow tempo sounded more musically attractive and receptive to dynamic nuances than the faster tempo version.

I first saw this probably around the time it was released and was gaga over it. It was over my head at that point. I learned it, or rather memorized it, at great effort, then forgot it. Now it's pretty elementary for me. Just mentioning that this video in particular was an enormous inspiration for me back then. "Yes yes yes, THAT is what I want to do!"

No offence, but none of these versions ever quite get going, either in piano or accompaniment. Too stilted for my liking. Some nice chords, though.
