When you have a jazz gig at 5 and a musical tribute to Lady Gaga at 6:30. 😂😂😂 Anyway, Veronica's vocals are just mesmerizing! Amazing!!! 👏🏽

@@Scion-cy6wj Uhhh...you DO realize we have the audio archives from the very beginning of the festival in 1958 in our possession? Mr. Priestly may have conflated the 1965 release of "Mingus At Monterey" where this track appeared with the year of its recording... which was in 1964. On our full audio of "Meditations" founder Jimmy Lyons says on the microphone that "so many of you showed up today to see Charles' debut at the Monterey Jazz Festival, which is one of the most heartwarming things I've ever heard or seen" and then begins to introduce Thelonious Monk. Jimmy then says "because of the huge success of it all, we asked this gentleman back and come and visit with us this year." Monk debuted at Monterey in 1963. Mingus debuted at the Monterey in 1964.

Why do all masterclasses focus on putting feeling into songs. That’s the first thing you do. What about vocal technique? Jazz vocal traits?

This was a good class. Hope next time the sound's better - I would put my ear close when the sound was down b/c I was trying to hear it, it's interesting, then the sound would blast my ear off - yikes! Dianne's good with the kids 🙂 Thanks for sharing.

Also, thanks to the accompanists - really nice job. Gives the kids some good experience.

Why do creators of some of these jazz videos entrust the audio to incompetent sound people who do not know basic gain structure ? Shouldn’t sound be the most important thing in music?

I agree. You dance with who brought you. Jazz musicians drive me crazy with the push the boundaries thing with their music and in this case garb. Stay in your lane: you’re not a pop star.
