yeah do yourself a favour and dont listen to billionairs advice on how to negotiate a pay rise as an employee, CEOs don't have anything to do with pay negotiations in the vast majority of organisations and they often dont understand the cost of loosing a good employee because you undervalued them and tried to call their bluff to avoid paying them more.

Would love this guy to expand into the world of mens mental health. Biggest killer of men under 40 is suicide in many countries. Fitness and motivation has a massive role to play in curbing this.

It works the opposite way too. If you’re planning to leave and they offer you more money, leave anyway. If you were valued enough they would have recognised you should have been earning more to begin with.

Spot on to be honest - the access to a wider market was built on the foundation of books the question is can gym shark revolutionise sport apparel the way amazon revolutionised reading. It is hard to imagine gym shark becoming a business that has a platform for other sellers and buyers that are outside of this sector.
@ChrisWilliams-sc2khКүн бұрын
I think you’re missing the point. I would strongly assume his desire isn’t to create a marketplace for sellers but rather GymShark occupies other verticals within the space such as nutrition (supplements, meal prep (maybe), training plans and coaching etc. the idea is to have gymshark ubiquitous throughout health and fitness. Potentially throughout sport generally. But I could be wrong and you right

Guess it depends who it is bringing this alternative offer to the table. If it's someone who is very valuable e.g. a director of X then it may be very difficult to replace them and its easier to just pay them more. If it's a more cookie cutter positon then sure let them go.

Nobody cares about references. People can make out what they want but you’re just a number in 99% of businesses and replaceable. So you need leverage. Because they want to maximise their ROI in you.

That's what a lot of beginners think. To be honest, these big guys don't really care what you're doing or how much weight you're lifting. If you are lifting incorrectly, people might approach and tell you how to do it properly, just so you wouldn't end up hurting yourself. Personally, I like seeing new gym members join the gym I'm going to, lots of skinny guys looking to put some muscle on or bigger guys trying to trim the fat. As a gym rat, it's always a nice thing to see, seeing people try to better themselves.

The problem here is he should know what his staff are doing and pay accordingly. Not wait until they come to him for a pay rise. He’s essentially ripping them off and he knows he is.

sounds nice however in the real life, if you know your good at your job and efficient and an asset then you 100% look at the market rate for your services and have that chat. your boss is not your friend. my mrs tried the polite chat at her work got nowhere, came back in showing multiple positions for the same job with higher pay and said she would start applying for these jobs tonight unless they improved their offer. they obviously emptied their pockets because my mrs was running the show in terms of her value.

I’ve gone through hoop after hoop playing nicely nicley softly softly… still nothing no rise “we can’t afford it” “your not worth that” “that’s too much” I leave for double what I asked for and my replacement who is half as good gets double what I asked for… so what was the point it cost them more for a worse person

Sadly, this doesn't work in 90% of workplaces. You are told lots of excuses. Then hit with the "we will consider your request." When you then get another offer from another company, the bosses then fall head over heals to try and keep you working for them. I personally would get another job offer, then go discuss it with my current employer. Nobody wants to change jobs, but you should always want better even the people at the top want better.
