Exactly right. I have 30 years in IT and Security. I interview people. Posers and pretenders get eliminated immediately. That said, there are roles that are less technical, such as people who just generate reports… but it’s like if you want to work onstage with the orchestra you don’t have to be the virtuoso, but if you can’t read sheet music or play anything then your peers won’t take you seriously. Come layoff time you are the first to go.

Because of that same feeling, I have seen plenty of talented ITs who have thrown the towel and end up working in something as far as away as possible.

The tool I used used a lot more sites than that. If the service uses QR codes at all, it can be hijacked. I didn't use it for random though. Only used on criminals.

Over here we have to have permissions for QR codes. But it is free use if it is a poster for lost/found pet.

Colleges in the late 90's to late 2010's do not set you up for the job. They twist the truth or outright lie about job market you get you to enroll so they can get that gov't money. You can graduate with honors, it won't mean much in the real world. You need to get the attention of hiring managers, network, be in the right place at the right time. COVID killed meetups and career fairs where you can meet people in the industry. If you don't live in a city, expect to drive 1-3 hours to go somewhere where the actual jobs are. Influencers are the big reason why there's a glut of tech people trying to get in. Many of them probably don't even work in tech anymore but it's a grift that makes money by selling overpriced courses and bootcamps that keep perpetuating the problem. The moment I see someone try to hawk a course as a "sponsor" I immediately back out of the video.

I’m actually starting a bootcamp thing that’s like 3 months long. You get 5 certifications from it. Doing this while I just make a living from home anyways so i thought why not. There are several different ways you can pay for the training and I chose for it to be deducted from future salary until paid off. They only deduct when you are making a certain amount and you are only required to pay them back if they land you a job which is cool so I said why not. Worst case is I don’t land a job and learn a bunch of stuff for free. Best case I land a job and pay them back, and if they get me a good job I’ll pay them back fast. I mainly want to try it out because I like the field and the remote work.

I really liked this. I did a deep-dive into QR codes a few years back for a project at work. Got to love them, made a product better and made the client happy. This is all new to me, especially 'quishing' which sounds gross. You gave me new tools to play with, and renewed my interest in the mischief I appreciate your style. I understand from whence it comes..

you've tought me something i didn't like at all in this industry, the truth is that you have to buid before destroying, you should understand code and build some projects from scratch and learn how things actually work so you can get the bigger picture of what are you tweaking on, then your gonna fly like new born bird, in other words then you can mine your own way into breaching that machine. you are like me when i was doing these repetitive web app machines, but the reality of this industry is the big picture without it your nothing, thanks for this ved

my progress courbe in fonction of time would look like, from 0 to 100 in the first month and decreasing dramatically for the rest of the time, and staying constant afterwards, well the truth is that you need a good budget to finance your courses and flex the learning curve and the whole day time, for 10 years then and then you can be a professional, the journey is insanely boring and consummative, the time of breaching is as rare as a golden fish in the ocean, you'll compare yourself to other then mostly quit. harsh reality better be a software engineer

Here's one of the main problems that people have in tech as a whole. For some reason, most logical tech people don't understand the value in the internships they worked at sophomore, and junior year. Most people think that the degree itself will land a job, which is incorrect in pretty much all industries, albeit more-so in tech. Everyone knows that you can land the CS degree, but that doens't mean you can create software, let alone work in an organization. You need a true portfolio of finished products completed on top of having large names that you've worked for as an intern. Even Human Resources... You need to have interned for an organization or two before you really land any actual offers. This is the real world where education matters less than experience. Tech is very logical, which is why there's such a "shock" factor. As far as constant learning, that's a good thing... That's actually what allows you to grow vs stay stuck in one role. Most people can't continue to learn as they don't feel as though it's worth it, which is where those pushing themselves can strive to move up within an organization. Have the mindset that you're going to be obtaining a new degree every 6-8 years. That level of thinking will allow you to continue beyond the "I got ma dugreee!!!" mindset. Yes, you have your CS degree, but how about also going for business.... Most people in tech are unable to connect the two, so when you have that ability, you stand out. Summary: Intern, it's expected. Already have finished products, it's expected. Always be learning, it's expected.

because of the sandbox features are chromebooks the most secure internet devices? if connected to an open network is it possible for somebody to script their way onto the device? if the chromebook is only used for web browsing, and is powerwashed and updated constantly how can the chromebook be hacked through open networks?

One of the remarkable features of ChatGPT is its capacity to seamlessly disguise your unique writing style. You provide ChatGPT with the message or idea you want to communicate, and it rephrases it in a completely different manner, as if articulated by someone else. This can be particularly useful for maintaining anonymity, ensuring consistency in professional writing, or simply exploring diverse ways to express an idea.

I've been looking into Cyber Security on Coursera, the Google and IBM certs. I'm not sure which one to take or which is "better". I just need help getting my foot into a door. I know I suck at math and the word Cryptography worries me, like, I SUCK at math.. Because of this I'm also looking into the Coursera IT Professional cert. Can anyone give me some advise on any of these courses? I understand the pay difference, but I don't understand which is the best / easiest route. (leaning towards easiest, I NEED a job badly) Good video, I enjoyed it. 🙂

These cyber security "influencers" had a real impact on people getting into cyber security. But in reality, they fail to tell people getting a job in cyber security is not as easy as they made it out to be. Employers are more concerned about experience than certifications.

Most folks are not going to get into cyber security because they are passionate about it. Personally I think most folks should not get a job they are passionate about. (been there done that.) Focus on getting a job that aligns with your core values - for example, if you have a core value of "constant learning and growth" then this would probably be a good job to go for.

Do you think actually having the network + is valuable for a cyber security career path, or just having the knowledge is enough. I have the A+ now and thinking about learning all the network+ objective, taking a few practice tests to make sure i understand, and then move on to obtaining Security +. I guess in summary i’m wondering if it’s worth the exam cost and if employers will care about the Network+ cert after obtaining the Sec+. p.s. I’ve already been in help desk role for years.
